The entire project was written, shot, edited and scored in less than 48 hours for the 2016 Los Angeles 48 Hour Film Holiday Project. All entries to the festival were required to include the following: Scotch tape as a prop, a character named Tony or Terry Hoopes (a gambler), and the line of dialogue "Did you read the directions?".
The movie contains a special thanks credit for Eddie Murphy because director Ryan Stockstad (as well as cinematographer Nick Laurant and first AC Patricia Borba ) spotted the celebrity while creating the film's shot list at a coffee shop early on the morning of the film's shoot. No one thought to ask the actor to appear in the film, but the sighting was deemed good luck all the same, especially as they were about to make a movie about gambling. That said, Ryan will swear to your face that he isn't the least bit superstitious.
This marks the second time that Jason Flowers has played a character named Randal. The other project is Randal (2012).
The movie features the song "Only Love" by Shannon Hurley. Actor Gabriel Scalone also appears in Heartbeat on the Radio (2016), a movie/music video of Hurley's song of the same name. Both songs can be found on her album "Switch It On".
Second 48 Hour Film Project movie to feature a song by Shannon Hurley. The other is Replacing Death (2011).
