A sweet start to a big thing

As we all know, there are not many Indian movies that choose the LGBT story. The ones that do exist tend to be either a mockery or really very dark. "The 'Other' Love Story" breaks that view in so many ways. As mentioned in the title this is a love story with a bit more.

Watching it feels genuine and the 90's twist on things is great. The 2 main characters grow with each episode and things move at a nice pace, its not "insta-love"! India has always had a tough time conveying LGBT issues in society, this film focuses on that too. Hopefully those who are opposed might watch this and change their old skool ideas. Spoorthi Gumaste and Shweta Gupta have given this series a great start, a lot of people are looking for a season 2, they are lovable and easy to identify with. Give this web series a chance and try and support it too.

This series is poetry, Indian culture and romance at its Indie best. 10/10 from me, this is a love story that needs all the attention it can get in Asia. This might be the start of some positive changes towards LGBT acceptance.

a very good web series in India. i live in it and i watch it every day not only one time but many time. i also watch it only for aachal my love. it is sad that lesbians and gays are not allowed in India also like here. it is a real love and the story is very magical and not like the western TV series with lots of sex scenes.

An authentic representation of a love story beyond the gender biases.

Having enjoyed my youth in the 1990's, this series for me was a chance to re-live my love-life. It is an original, raw and the purest form of love brought on screen. Such an innocent but intense love story it is, written and directed by a young lady talent - Roopa Rao. Her attempt to go for such a sensitive concept that is still considered a taboo in a country like India, that too being an indie film maker with lots of budget stressing, she has some real guts. Her series as a whole and her work as a film-maker immensely impressed me. She has earned this for herself. Please rate this series with maximum votes and I personally request her to go for next season. Love you Roopa...

A Sweet Story of Pure and Honest Love
cosmogalante9 September 2019
This story takes place in India, during the late1990s, where and when it was a complete taboo for any young woman to get involved in a lesbian relationship. Repercussions are grave and swift as parents exercised absolute control and authority to even their college aged daughters. Something we Americans don't often see and is therefore difficult at times to watch. In each episode of the web series, writer and director Roopa Rao guides the two young actresses, Spoorthi Gumaste and Shweta Gupta, who portray the protagonists, through a host of growing feelings. First friendship, then trust, then intensely growing love and finally longing. From their interviews, it appears that neither of these young ladies had ever played such a controversial role before, yet they managed to pull off a pureness and sincerity that has made them instant stars and beloved figures throughout Asia. Fans constantly clamor for a season 2 or sequel but the talented Ms Rao is exploring new areas to light up the silver screen with. I don't know if she realizes that this series may have heavily contributed to India's recent enlightenment and loosening of restrictions against lesbians and gays. The series of short episodes is refreshing, clean and touching and it makes me as an American spectator also wish for a sequel. It is well worth the watch. Enjoy!

So beautiful and amazing series

I like watching gls. I have watched a lot of gls from various countries. It is an underexplored genre and it can do a lot better.

I had no hope that a homophobic country like India has ever made an amazing lgbt content, specially gl. I recently found it and I can't explain how happy I was. This is one of the best gls I have ever watched. The script is really amazing in the constrained time frame and the actresses have nailed their roles. This is a great step towards the promotion and acceptance of lgbt community. I believe that media whether it is cinema, songs or books is the only way to normalize this type of love.
