Soul Brother

Warning: Spoilers
Glad to gave Luke Cage back, but the show needs to give us something different this season if it doesn't want to fall into the same trap that Jessica Jones did in Season 2.

Right now it looks like most of the same bad guys except for a new superhuman opponent. Luke Cage vs. someone like him will be good, but right now it is a bit too much of the same.

Good, but it didn't live up to the hype for me.

Not The Greatest Start For Season 2
MekkaMax22 June 2018
I really enjoyed season 1. I thought the story was strong, the action was fun and I even enjoyed the second half when it got a little silly. But, season 2 starts out slow with no real sense of direction. It remided me of the first episode of the Defenders. However, the performances are still fun to watch and the action scenes in this episode were enjoyable. Hopefully, the rest of the season can do better than this.

Great music!

This was a great first episode. The Weirdness of the music in the club and Maria's remark to the picture of her mother made me crack up. FUN is the name of the game for Season 2 and I'm happily along for the ride!

Very good 2nd series
foolonthehill3814 July 2018
My decision not to binge this season paid off. The individual story writing and settings gave much to be appreciated. This is a dynamic, character-driven TV series...certainly not a big-budget Disney cinema presentation, but the acting is on par!.

Great soundtrack

Small screen comic-book super-hero endeavors require more attention to detail, story and focus, like the actual print.

If you like "stories" with a good plot, humanization and excellent actors, you will enjoy this series.

A First Episode is Supposed to Draw You In
redrobin140023 June 2018
The writing and directing of the first episode of Season 2 is dull. The imagery is dull. The lighting is dull. The characters are dull. The dialogue is exposition heavy. Absent are intriguing character moments, personality development, humor, dramatic twists, or interesting villains. The lame old organized crime trope is in no way interesting or engaging. The second episode does have a nice character moment, but it still feels like an overwrought, bad plot heavy story with too many scenes in dark speakeasies, and TERRIBLE dialogue. Also, as another reviewer said, there needs to be less focus on musical performances on a stage, and more on STORY!

I loved the first season of Luke Cage, but the first episode is supposed to make you want to watch more, not think about giving up on the series. I get where the plot is supposed to go, but this series needs better writers and directors to draw viewers in (and pull it off successfully), not turn them off to the series.

Terrible start to a great show. Luke Cage Season 2
Obbys22 June 2018
This was an absolute horrendous viewing experience. The cinematography was cringe and unpleasant at best. The dialogue was cringe and cliched. The way characters would interact and react made NO SENSE, when compared to the previous season. The composition of shots is the quality of YouTube skits, the foreshadowing is laid on thick.. And yet a lot of things in the episode just happens with no explanation or continuity. It seems like the talented actors did the best with what they were instructed to do, but it almost seem like they too are confused with their characters actors. It's an absurd awkward feeling of out of place.

I hope Lucy Liu refrains from further directing work in some of my favorite shows.

Just because of season 1 I'll give this show one or two more episodes to get rolling and maybe get decent.. It's more likely that the show is dead - just like the other Marvel Netflix shows (with the exception of Jessica Jones, which is still an excellent show).

Too much music and on stage performing.
xxxNomadicxxx22 June 2018
I'm on the fifth episode and already over annoyed with the music and on stage performances. It's entirely too much. Minus that from each episode, and on average, it's only 34 minutes long.

Average start
Leofwine_draca26 October 2021
An average way to begin a season. I was amused to see Lucy Liu listed as director. You can tell someone else handled the decent action scenes because they're totally different in style to the (very average) rest.

Weak
zomgzomg22 December 2018
This episode lacks direction and a coherent plot, the directing is a bit awkward as is the writing, and the dialogue is often overly dramatic and cringeworthy.

With so much going on in the plot it's surprising how "nothing" this episode is. There are too many characters who are doing too little.

The introduction to the new antagonist was odd, brief and pointless. The scene towards the end of the episode would have been a better introduction.

Overall, this was not an awful episode, but it was below average.

Let's see where this goes...

Not the hero

Warning: Spoilers
Luke cage' only purpose in this season is to prolong the war between the antagonists bushmaster attacks Mariah Luke saves Mariah. Mariah attacks bushmaster Luke saves bushmaster I'm not sure if he's conflicted over the possible death of either of them or the victim of piss poor writing, but it's safe to say this season was absolutely pointless and did nothing but make Luke look like a big dumb ox with no direction smashing his way through 13 episodes of garbage
