Anne is incredibly precocious. In the Middle-Ages she would have been burned as a witch. She goes on and on about her fantasies. The problem is that what she has experienced is not what most other children can ever experience. In this episode, Anne is sent off to school. She picks flowers and puts them in her hat. She makes quite an appearance and is immediately set upon by the other girls. The belittle her and the bullies begin to take over. Except for one boy who takes an immediate shine to her. This makes the others jealous and they really make her life miserable. While outside the school, she sees one of the older girls kissing the teacher in a back room. Being ignorant of such things, she tells her new acquaintances that these two are making a baby, not understanding anything about such activities. It leads to a huge mess and a sort of blackballing of her. There's more, having to do with Marilla and the other mothers who see themselves as progressive, even though they are as mean and petty as Anne's classmates. This continues to be a wonderful example of character development.
