A righteous sting operation

At its worst, "Lethal Weapon" is standard cop show; the case may seem cookie-cutter but there's always the central partnership there to elevate things.

And "Brother Love" pretty much nails the depth-to-humor balance. It ably mixes in Trish and has some good emotional weight, but then the banter kicks in and it's back to Riggs and Murtaugh, supercops.

It's got plenty of heart.

Poor rendition of the original movies.

Warning: Spoilers
I thought I would try watching an episode as I did enjoy the movies, 1st movie best and diminished enjoyment as the sequels came out. The original Riggs was a troubled soul, having been beat up by Vietnam and then the loss of his wife. This new version of Riggs is simply an alcohol consuming jerk. The original Riggs was rash but also cared about his partner in the end. The new Riggs is a bull in the china shop who really does not care about anything. The original Riggs was a likable and funny hero, albeit very emotionally needy, who found friendship and admiration from his partner and his family. The new Riggs remains an outsider, and is despised and feared by his partner. The original movies had rash actions that had good results, which included a few jumping/falling from high places scenes. The new series seems to lack any originality and, in this one episode alone, has two jumping off building scenes and also tries to tie in Riggs'suicidal tendencies with yet another falling from the top of a building scene that comes off as ridiculous. I'm sorry, but even though I was intrigued with the premise of using the Lethal Weapon movies as the base for a TV show, this attempt is weak in content, has a poor and weak script, and is put together in a very shiftless and disjointed way. The characters are one dimensional and predictable. The action is stupid. And for Pete's sake, pony up some money and send Riggs to Cost Cutters for a haircut. He looks like an idiot.
