Have you ever had to explain to your children what exactly sex is? Or have you ever had to experience the awkwardness of your parents giving you the whole spiel on how everything... works? Oh, who am I kidding. Of course, you have. And that's why "The Talk" is an enjoyable short film on exactly that situation, but from the parent's perspective.

Now, I'm not a parent and I'm sure this exaggerated for pure humor, but the scenarios the two parents keep thinking of are just down right hilarious and over the top. There were more than a couple moments that I laughed out loud. Some of the scenarios are things I didn't see coming and made it all the more hilarious. I'm always amused by seeing people struggle to get themselves out of awkward situations they put themselves in.

I'm happy to say that this short film avoids all the clichés we have come accustomed to seeing when it comes to "the talk" shown in films. I expected another one of those cringe-worthy performances that is so obviously scripted, but I got the complete. Although these scenarios these two parents envision are for laughs, there's something organic in them that really shows they are concerned for their daughter. This whole short film feels organic and real. perhaps these are the scenarios that are common amongst parents with teenagers and so in that sense, I know this film can be super relatable to more than just a few.

Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed about this short film is how normal the resolution is. That's right. Normal. I mean that as a compliment to the short because of how organic and raw it feels. More often than not, the ending of this film is exactly how having the talk went with my parents went as I'm sure it went with plenty of others. "The Talk" could have been a different tone if the filmmakers ended if differently and I'm glad they didn't because of how realistically it portrays the outcome of these conversations.

Now, I know there are horror stories of how parents have broke the news with their children. The situational setup the parents put themselves through are basic "how to not tell your kid" scenarios, yet a lot of them seem super plausible. Perhaps they are based off of real experiences the filmmakers have encountered of heard of and brought them to life. So if you even had an awful experience with your children or parents, then this film is that much more relatable to you. It reaches a wide audience that can easily relate to any of these scenarios throughout the piece.

The overall message of this film is how to not overreact with how you're going to break the news with your children, it's to treat them like an adult and explain to them what growing up essentially is while being mature themselves; which these two parents in this short weren't, but boy was it funny.
