The Making of 'The Thing' (1982)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
If you grew up in the 80s then you're bound to remember how these small promotional pieces were usually made to try and sell movies. When viewing them at the time you really had to judge them on how well it sold the picture. This one here does a decent job at selling John Carpenter's THE THING but I must be honest and say that there's really nothing here that would make people want to rush out and see the picture unless they were already a fan of Carpenter. When viewing this nine-minute special today you can't help but really love it as it gives you an interview with Carpenter who discusses the original film and what he wanted to do with the remake. We also get an interview with Kurt Russell and production manager John Lloyd. Best of all is that there's some nice behind-the-scenes footage of a couple scenes being shot as well as the cast arriving on set.
