Good treat on social issue!
MuviFan738 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In recent times we have dealt with two movies that also deal with mentality of people. The first is released earlier. It deals with toilet problem in rural India 'Toilet – Ek prem katha'. The other movie is this one, namely 'Poster boys'. It deals with birth control method of vasectomy and girl child. It is crafted really well.

The movie keeps you engaged in the first half. Few ten minutes of second half seem boring. It may be because of buffalo jokes in second half. The movie catches well again irrespective of that. I even liked the action minister takes in front of crowd after knowing the truth.

Shreyas has got all good help which he could have got that it itself is a great treat.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: It is captured well.

Tone: The core message that movie tries to deliver takes place in ending few minutes of the movie. Rest assured the movie belongs to comedy genre.

Music: Music is average.

Acting: Everybody has acted well.

It is worth a watch.

rating: 6.5/10.

Takes A While to Get Going
boblipton9 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
One man discovers his sister's fiance's father has called off the wedding; another, that his fiancee's father has done likewise; a third, that his wife is walking out. It takes twenty minutes for them to discover what has disgraced them in the eyes of their village: there's a government campaign to encourage men to get vasectomies, and they're the poster boys. Everyone thinks it's disgraceful. The thing is, none of them have done it.

This Bollywood comedy spends the first twenty minutes flailing about, until it settles down and becomes engaging; there are too many loud comedy turns by too many people to offer much beyond comic stereotypes. It is only when calm, rational, moral Sunny Deol loses his temper that he emerges as the leader of the three and balances the comic triad. The story never quite lives up to its promise, as they are frustrated by events, government inertia and continually up the stakes, until they decide -- for no clear reason -- to strip naked in protest. However, there are some bright comic bits along the way.

The fun element never stops and that is quite a feat.
fillerruth7 September 2017
POSTER BOYS is the story of three men whose lives turn upside down for no fault of theirs. Vinay Sharma (Bobby Deol) is a docile school teacher, Arjun Singh (Shreyas Talpade) is an over enthusiastic school teacher while Jagaavar Chaudhary (Sunny Deol) is the explosive but also well-mannered retired army officer. They reside in a village called Jangheti and one day, they find their pictures on a poster promoting vasectomy. They are immediately ridiculed and the trio try their best to convince their near and dear ones that they haven't undergone the procedure and that their pictures have been wrongly used. They decide to take on the system to avenge the humiliation that they suffered. What happens next and whether they get justice forms the rest of the film.

POSTER BOYS doesn't start on a great note. The beginning portions are stretched, with the family members and acquaintances ridiculing the trio but not telling them the reason for the same. Also the TV style flashback portions look poor. The film picks up when the trio meet each other at the bridge. From here, the film turns into a fairly entertaining ride right till the end with no dull moment anywhere. A Few scenes stand out like Jagaavar stopping Arjun and Vinay from fighting, the trio going to local health office, the interval point, Jagaavar getting a call from Riya (Tripti Dimri) at midnight, Jagaavar and Vinay fooling the doctor (Ashwini Kalsekar) etc. The climax is quite exciting and it's praiseworthy how the makers have managed to seamlessly add a social message into the narrative.

Shreyas Talpade's story is novel and makes for an entertaining film. Bunty Rathore and Paritosh Painter's screenplay is effective overall, despite an average beginning. The fun element never stops and that is quite a feat. Bunty Rathore and Paritosh Painter's dialogues are hilarious and witty and one of the highpoints of the film. Shreyas Talpade's direction is quite good and he makes a great directorial debut. He ensures the subject isn't dumbed down and that audiences aren't taken for granted. Also, the way he and his team has made references to Deol brothers' earlier films like DAMINI, SOLDIER etc. is quite smartly done.

is a decent comedy
beevenkat2 September 2018
Poster Boys, a remake of a Marathi movie, is a decent comedy, but the running time has to be reduced by 20 minutes. Three men, for no fault of theirs, find their faces featured on a poster promoting nasbandi. This creates a lot of problems in their personal lives n they try to salvage their reputation. Good to see Sunny n Bobby in different roles, where they fight less n talk more. Some dialogues are witty, without being vulgar. There is a message at the end which needs to be appreciated by the male audiences. Rating 2.5/5.

If a film isn't a hit, it doesn't mean it's not good
akaushal198320 May 2018
Had a great time watching this film with my family. We couldn't stop laughing. Just what was needed on a Sunday evening.

Great job. Light hearted, good script, funny jokes and references and very good performances.

Good job from the first time director too. Both behind and in front of the camera.

Throughly enjoyable. Don't think about it too much and just enjoy it for what it is.

Awful waste of time
rubysraj-7693024 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Please don't fall for the fake reviews posted regarding this movie stating it as a must watch. this is absolute junk movie. Seems like the Deols are going through extreme financial crisis that they had to resort to this kind of junk. the direction is absolute disaster , Talpade makes you feel like you are are retard showing same nonsense repeatedly. I kept watching it past ten minutes hoping it ll get better but it just keeps going on and on and more and more dumb. Bobby is portrayed as a teacher with IQ of less than 5, all the movie he is not able to decide what subject he actually teaches...........!!!! Even if someone has vasectomy, what is the big deal of proving it that they didn't had it done. Just get a simple semen analysis and it will show that the procedure was not done. why to waste so much time and effort convincing people that they didn't had vasectomy!!!! Understandable that Indian govt system is absolutely retard and slow but in this movie it has been shown to hit the impossible low......come on... In climax scene, the CM is saying that he will show his power but when he goes to talk to these 3 idiots, he suddenly has a change of mind...... All the characters are struggling with identity crisis, Sunny is a super man in his sisters eyes but shown as an imbecile, Bobby is trying to figure out what topic he actually teaches, Talpade is dressing like a monkey with a weird beard and looks and acts like a chimpanzee........ If there is a category of lame and dumb movies, then this is definitely a strong contender for top spot.

Comedy, Humour,Nice Movie.
tlrg-legend10 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Poster boys is a solid comic effort from debutante director Shreyas Talpade. Fact is he has worked in some of our better popcorn comedies in recent years like Golmaal and Housefull , add the fact that he himself is a good comic timing actor has helped him in dishing out a movie which is entertaining enough.

Poster Boys makes you realize that Bobby Deol has a very good talent for comedy. His effort as the small town teacher ,forever dominated by an aggressive wife might come across as heavily Dharmendra in chupke chupke inspired but Bobby Deol leaves his mark in this movie. His shudhdh Hindi lines and the small diary in his pocket acts brought the house down.

Shreyas as the toughie collection agent who acts confident but is actually dumb does his job with the casual ease that an actor of his calibre can.

Sunny Deol proves yet again that he remains a superstar who can own the scene anytime that he wants to. His Jagawar Chaudhary effort is good enough to make this movie watchable and the scene where he casually plucks the lock out the grill makes you wonder if this screaming avenger of 90s only needs a good director and one more rocking hit could just be round the corner.

Poster Boys is a tale of three small town characters who are brought together in a comedy of errors because they get their photograph clicked in the same mela from the same photographer.

An unexpected social campaign of nasbandi lands them into big time soup and their near and dear ones also get entangled in unnecessary pain and complications.

The story is about how the three come together and win their battle.

In the process the movie ends up giving you some positive message around gender equality too BUT make no mistake Poster Boy is a laugh riot.

Poster Boy's biggest pull is the earthy presentation of its humour, it does not have Rohit shetty style grand canvas presentation or David Dhawan style of comedy presentation. Yet the comedy moments, the one liners keep coming at you like a barrage of bullets.

The internal chemistry of all the characters and the small subplots like the teacher and his dominating wife, Jagawar and his down to earth partner, Arjun singh and his two bumbling but golden hearted side kicks are all well mixed with the main story plot - actually Shreya Talpade deserves kudos for building a screenplay which is just 130 odd minutes and yet keeps a story which is engrossing enough. Not for once does the movie loses its focus on entertaining the comic way.

If you are looking for decent enough humor entertainment for the weekend Poster Boys is good enough.

Poster Boys , I must confess , is unexpectedly good and probably this will be one of the bigger surprise hits of 2017.

Subject of 'Male sterilization is demeaning' is old and above it, treatment is ancient
dineshprakash8 September 2017
There was a time when male sterilization was so demeaning but now a days, approach is changed. If they had handled this subject in light way then it could have been ticklish but they stuffed it with pretending unnecessarily high pitch drama and stupid comedy. In climax they tried to justify this subject in sensible way but that was too late and sudden. Film opens with all male actors back to camera, one journalist speaks about them and film goes to flash back with loud back ground and then opens with a dance sequence on which credits roll over. Nothing gels well, neither that back ground sound, nor that item song but character gets introduced in it. They tried to keep 'poster' issue as surprise for almost 25 minutes which was well exposed and revealed in trailer! They have tried to encash already established two male protagonist image by mocking their own hit dialogues. Master, played by Bobby Deol, has soldier song as ring tone. Government officer name is Balwant!! It is obvious that they could not find new gags so they tried to go on beaten path. Chaudhary (Sunny Deol), suddenly turns into his high voltage angry image by breaking lock, chair etc !! Drama seems lame and loud because of not so dramatic Poster issue but is has established as disaster by showing, Chaudhary's sister marriage gets cancelled. They think about ancient scene like Pagadhi putting on groom's father feet for not cancelling marriage !!? Master's wife, who has already two daughters, threatens him to divorce because she wants another male baby. Third, a recovery agent but behaving like goon is accepted by girl's family but gets rejected by girl's father due to that poster. There is nothing in the name of characterization. For example, teacher lives in Punjab, teaches Geography then speaks typical Hindi and sometimes Chemistry formulas, who is known for forgetting crux lines. A deaf photographer and his chubby female translator assistant!! Makers would have thought it as a laugh riot but it was lamest long scene. If male sterilization was so demeaning for that village than rather than going for medical checkup to prove that they had not done it they try every way like thrashing officers, going to court then announcing in press conference for nude protest but doing semi nude protest. First half is somehow bearable but second half is annoying. That long protest scene is too much. Everything happens in jiffy in climax. Even they preach after all stupid show off. Performance wise Bobby Deol as teacher is very impressive as a timid guy. Sunny Deol is good for whatever had tasked to him.

Truth needs sensation to be heard
sgupta001-817-7745579 September 2017
Some stories are so absurd, that they must be true!

This is what can be said for 'Poster Boys', a directorial venture of Shreyas Talpade (himself an accomplished actor, although lately kind of disappeared from the mainstream).

The topic of male sterilization and the associated taboo in India, especially when you live in a small village community, is presented in a funny and exaggerated manner. It is nice to see another attempt to re-launch Bobby Deol (as yet another borderline comic character). Although can't say it is much successful. In fact Sunny Paaji's effortless timing and dialog delivery made him overshadow his younger brother in nearly every scene together. He stole the show. Shreyas Talpade, who plays one the three main characters in the story, is OK; dons a 'tapori' look as a recovery agent, with two of his sidekicks (who by the way, gave some of the good laughs), getting into unwarranted troubles most of the time.

The movie tries to treat the subject in a quasi satirical manner, with references to how media can be manipulated by simply making some sensational moves. 'Truth needs sensation to be heard' - a sad but apt comment, made by one of the characters.

Overall nice, watchable and funny. Not that a must watch, but you most likely won't regret wasting your time.

A Pretty Decent Remake Of The Marathi Blockbuster
afsalthodupuzha12 September 2017
An official remake of Sameer Patil's 2014 Marathi runaway hit "Poshter Boyz",Shreyas Talpade's directorial debut 'Poster Boys' deals with the highly socially relevant issue of male sterilization in a light- hearted tone with satisfactory dose of slapstick and verbal humor to label it as a decent entertainer for the single screen audience in particular. Most importantly the movie marks the come back of Bobby Deol into the big screens after a hiatus of almost 4 years, who has managed to give out a solid performance that's instantly lovable.

The saving grace of the movie for most part is the brilliant chemistry between Deol brothers and Shreyas, and the trio ensures that the loopholes on the storyline is concealed up to an extent. The screenplay credited to the duo of Bunty Rathore and Paritosh Painter is filled with abundance of comic sequences which at times become a bit too loud and repetitive.

The climax portions puts forward a commendable social message which could have been more impactful had the screenplay been less predictable and giving more emphasize on the issue rather than resorting to low-brow humor. The movie had a feel of television sitcom at times which can be attributed to the constrained budget of the movie. The references to yesteryear super-hits of Deol brothers like 'Soldier','Border' and 'Damini' was funny and executed well.

It was a delight to watch Bobby Deol back on the big-screen after a long-time and the charismatic made it sure that the character invested on him is portrayed well with necessary mannerisms and dedication.Sunny Deol too gave an impressive performance and the funny sequences involving him were totally hilarious and the best part of the narration.Shreyas Talpade was impressive with his comic timing.Sonali Kulkarni and Samiksha Bhatnagar were adequate.Ashwini Kalsekar did her part well.

Two among the three songs in the movie was used in the credits and the idea to reboot 'Kudiyan Shehar Di' from Arjun Pandit has worked out well among the mass audience.Technical side of the movie was okayish.

Overall,Poster boys is an average comedy-drama that's worth a watch for its social relevance, some funny one-liners and neat performances from the cast.

This one Entertains as well as teaches something at the End.
SAMTHEBESTEST9 September 2017
POSTER BOYS REVIEW : I have already watched Marathi version of Poster Boys multiple times on TV and liked it so obviously i was not expecting much from the Hindi version. But despite being predictable for me, film did not disappoint at all. From the Beginning till the end film doesn't lose the grip so it end up as a Decent One Time Watch. If i compare it with the marathi film then there will be so many minuses but i think it would be unfair so let it remain individual film and let me talk about it.

Performances of 3 lead male stars lifts the tempo of the film. Sunny Deol is massy, loudy so does lovable in his most lovable avatar. Bobby plays a decent and gentleman's characters so this one doesn't impress much. Shreyas is playing a Tapori character and may be that is why he looks different from Deols and connects well with the audience. Music is below average and thankfully there are No useless songs in a film except the beginning credit song in which Elli Avram skin show is eye pleasing for masses. Screenplay is tight, no useless scenes, it is sticked to the content strictly that's why film doesn't go off track for a minute. Direction wise Shreyas doesn't show something new but still it looked good because he had strong script in hands so there's no need to do much. And thankfully he did not try anything and did not try to disturb the main theme of the film. Dialogues are catchy, some PJs are hilarious such as Sunny Deol's famous dialogues, Soldier's ringtone and many more.

Overall, Poster Boys is a Decent and watchful film with mixture of Good and realistic script, Comedy, few massy scenes and above all there's a Social message in climax. So go for this one, if you have not seen the Marathi version then you'll like it very much and even if you have watched the marathi version still film won't disappoint you. I give 6/10* to this Well made, Well crafted, Social Comedy flick.
