Experimenting...
abisrikumar29 October 2018
Wasn't the best episode, but clearly it's more of an experimental episode. It wasn't fantastic as one might hope for since it's a one man show and missing the group dynamic that makes the show what it is but honestly people need to cut iasip some slack on this one. It's quite interesting and humorous and a little gory but hey that's what makes iasip better than the rest, they're not afraid to try something new.

Great one man show from Charlie Day
chuckedoll25 October 2018
This episode encapsulated everything that makes Charlie great. His extremes of lunacy and debauchery were on full display in this episode. Don't believe the haters

People really miss the point of this episode
chinbagdeluxe26 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a lot like the previous and brilliant "the gang does a clip show," where on the surface it seems like a generic home alone parody, but after a deceptively long parody and recreation of Home alone, it soon becomes one of the goriest and most disgusting episodes of the show, with it soon turning into a parody of Saw. With a plethora of great physical humour and a really funny concept, this is an easily overlooked episode in a season that I think is over-hated. I can't say that about the next episode, which is my least favourite in the show. 13x9 isn't even that awful of an episode, a testament to how good this show is.

Not nearly as bad as everyone here is saying
rbrown97727 October 2018
As a long time and hardcore Sunny fan, I was laughing consistently throughout this episode after the point where Charlie got left alone. Definitely one of the best so far in what is looking to be potentially one of the worst seasons, and I don't think the amount of hate this episode is getting here is fair. Charlie's performance in this episode is fantastic and that alone made it great for me. Looking forward to next weeks continuation.

A different kind of episode for the show, but great nonetheless! Don't buy into the hate.
jacksonwhindman29 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Look, everyone here is entitled to their opinions, but I do feel like a lot of the negative reviews surrounding this episode come from people who are frustrated with the different feel of this season and looking to vent. Yes, this episode is very different for Always Sunny, and it is another bottle episode which some people seem to hate, however this was one of the strongest episodes of this season IMO, leagues better than the Ladies Reboot episode.

The Home Alone parody scenes are well done in context of the episode as a whole, they last just long enough to lure you into the idea that the whole episode is going to be a rip-off of Home Alone. That makes the part where Charlie steps in the bear trap all the more shocking, and the sudden shift in tone from lighthearted parody to brutal physical comedy felt like a classic Sunny moment to me.

The blood and bodily injury are crazy over the top, and people here are saying that like its somehow a poor choice for the show? What about the time they had Charlie dig down to his arm bone with an electrified pair of tweezers, had Dee's braid ripped out of her head by a carnival ride, or showed Charlie drench the back of a limo in projectile blood vomit? Blood and gore is nothing new for the Gang. The intense injury juxtaposed with Charlie's insane quest to keep the rituals alive was continuously, terribly funny, and also did a good job of poking fun at Home Alone by showing what things like a nailgun to the arm or paint can to the head would really feel like (Charlie's "WHO WOULD DO THIS TO SOMEONE?") was perfect.

Overall not in the best episodes of the show, but one of the high points of the season for me. Keep an open mind and wait for part 2 this week before writing this one off as a sign that Always Sunny is "dead".

Bad
dougmacdonaldburr28 October 2018
I hate to say it, but, I thought this episode sucked. It isn't funny, it's disgusting, and it really didn't make any sense. I know Charlie can be an idiot, but. the things he did in this episode take that way too far. In the early seasons there is an episode where he is filling in a form and he list's Paddy's Pub as the prize, because, he thought it said pride. The gang then have to win a dance competition just to keep their own bar. That was a great example of Charlie's stupidity leading to some great comedy. In this episode he is too stupid, and the situation isn't funny. It is even a bit boring at times. This has not been a good season for the show. I think the main problem is that they seem to have a bunch of new writers who don't seem to get it. None of the episodes have been written by Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney or Charlie Day. No one understands the characters better than they do, which is why they usually end up writing the best episodes. I hope the next season is better, or they decide to quit while they are still ahead.

Don't listen to the haters
tolschewski30 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I've been excited for this show since day one. I live near Philly and think it's awesome it's placed near here. Yes this episode was only Charlie based. Yes it had gross moments. However, did anyone realize the WHOLE season alludes to the Eagle's Superbowl win? I think they've mentioned it in every episode this season thus far. This episode isn't Sunny's greatest, but it's adding up to a GREAT season. There is a plot to this one. Charlie is left behind. Cricket stole his Greenman outfit. Stop hating the show you love, it doesn't have one foot in the grave.

One of the weakest episodes in the series
jaakkojokinen30 September 2021
Personally I find the concept for the episode to be fitting for the show. I didn't find too crass, or at least that's not what brought down the episode for me.

There's something in the production quality of this episode. There are uncharacteristic sequences where the acting feels awkward. At points the choice of music fails to hit that ironic note. The pacing feels like it's from a more traditional sitcom type of show. Some of the camera work feels stalled which humanises the character of Charlie beyond the caricature he is. All of these things combined manage to break the illusion of the show. After a few viewings with some time in between, it still feels like the effect wasn't purposeful, that it wasn't put to good use.

This episode puts the series in a setting where it feels awkward in a way it hasn't before.

HILARIOUS
cheezelyk26 October 2018
I don't know why everyone else rated this episode so badly. I thought this episode was genius. Charlie episodes are always my favourite and loved all the little home alone references. The first few episodes of the season weren't great but it seems to be picking up again since the Clip Show

Hilariously dumb!
cleoriggle24 January 2021
While yes, I did miss the group dynamic, I thought this episode was wonderful! All the stupid and gross humor made me laugh so hard. It was a silly, stupid plot, but a good plot.

Charlie's Home Alone
deanneuhart21 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah this felt pointless. Charlie is dumb, but he isn't THAT dumb, like why would he think the people outside are burglarers other than because it's supposed to be a parody of Home Alone. This is probably the worst episode of the show yet, which to be fair is kinda impressive because 13 seasons in and there's really only been a couple stinkers, although season 13 as a whole has felt really off, both in terms of the characters and just the writing as a whole. It's not as funny as the previous seasons, with the jokes hanging on for far too long and the episodes becoming less and less inventive each week.

Charlie's Home Alone
bobcobb30125 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was fine with the bickering between the gang in the beginning about rituals, pregaming, the Eagles etc.

Then we had the weird Charlie hallucination/Home Alone parody. This felt dated, random, awkward, and just wasn't as funny as this show used to be.

This episode is unwatchable. I cannot watch it. Always sunny is my favorite show ever but the only 2 episodes I skip are season 13. This and the gang escapes.

why so low
elaurenc10 March 2022
I've seen every episode of this show and most of them are pretty damn funny, but this is one of my favorites hands down. Why is this one of the lowest rated in this season? It's by far the best episode of this season.

What is happening to this show. There was nothing smart or funny. It was boring at best. The writers of this episode should be ashamed.

Not funny, incredibly gross
karenswansonfacebook26 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode featured a self-inflicted gorefest unlike anything seen on Sunny before. Charlie spends a majority of the episode crawling around the bar with a bear trap on his leg, which is bloody and gross. The whole thing is cringe worthy and the fact that there's a part two is horrific. It's supposed to be a parody of Home Alone but is much more like Saw for no reason. So far he's gotten caught in a bear trap, walked through broken glass, gotten hit repeatedly in the head by paint cans and drank his own urine. I'm a series-long fan of IASIP but this episode was awful and not at all the Sunny I know and love.

One of the worst episodes
treborbasset26 January 2022
One of the worst episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in 15 years. Watch it once so that you never have to watch it again.

I previously gave it a 3/10, but upon my attempt to rewatch it, I found not a single redeeming quality. Just watch Charlie scream and limp around with a bear trap on his foot, that's all this episode is.

For the hardcore fan only...
qman-8763516 April 2022
Well not much to add here, the other reviews say it all, except you should know this episode is a nested clip of what happened to Charlie while the rest of the gang went to the Super Bowl, and that's covered in a different episode.

Some good ideas riffing on home alone, but this episode seems to suffer from whatever is hurting most of the newer ones I have seen so far , editing? Writing? Both?

Having seen the first seven or so seasons over and over, was really excited to see newer episodes pop up on reruns on a channel I get, but so far , the new ones mostly pale in comparison to the classics... not any body s fault, but that's the way she goes sometimes.

As to this being the absolute worst episode, I would have to say it's not this one, it's the laser tag one. That one sucked!

A Clip Show , now this ? And the episode ended with to be continued ?

Is it me , or his seasons Sunny feels different ?

Time's Up for the Gang and The Gang Gets New Wheels felt like old Sunny and fit in with episodes from the previous seasons .

I feel like they changed writers or something .
