Nick shows up at the Powers home to appeal for Matt's help in convincing Dr. Hendryx to assist with Hank's surgery. Matt is apprehensive because of Nick and Hendryx's contentious past history, but Matt finally agrees to speak with Hendryx. After learning that Nick hasn't officially instigated annulment proceedings, Matt cautions him that he thinks Cathy is still troubled. Nick disagrees. He believes that she has learned a very hard lesson. John arrives home to find Maggie visiting Althea. He tells them about his session with Harold Baylor. John senses that Baylor is a mama's boy who is afraid that he can't live up to his mother's expectations and isn't ready to commit to the hard work necessary to become an accomplished violinist. Hence, he uses his perceived pain to avoid work and rejection. Althea decides that she'll confront Baylor with John's theory. Mike and Toni bask in their New York hotel where they rediscover passion, and Toni seems to forget about Barbara. Mike likes Toni suggestion that they go to the record store Toni visited on a previous trip to see if they can get Lauri James' album as a present for Hank. Matt shares with Maggie that he doesn't have a good feeling about Nick's desire to have Hendryx on Hank's surgical team. Steve informs Althea about his visit from Cathy. They agree they're uneasy about her newfound gratitude and gushing pleasantness, since it's the complete opposite of her attitude just days ago. John decides he's suspicious, too.
