Very good
idunacardenas17 August 2018
The Story is quite good, not terribly creative though, the acting is good and the two characters have a clear chemistry, its cute but with the right amount of angst in it too, i'd definitely recommend

Conflicted opinion
d319321 June 2019
So much is not right about this movie. And yet ..... I binge watched to the end.

What's not right: The story revolves around hazing (institutionalized bullying), and excuses it as being helpful to the 'freshies' who have to go through it. It is very slow. Plot lines tend to be slender and overly drawn out. The acting is not the greatest. One of the two leads seems to have only two expressions for most of the episodes - adding a third only towards the end. All of the young cast have pale flawless complexions, which might be a requirement in Thai films, but is hardly realistic. and the photography, with its elevated black levels, emphasizes this, producing many washed out looking scenes. And, especially annoying, the occasional "boiiing" on the soundtrack. This is the sort of sound effect that used to be found in some early 30s shorts and cartoons. I've noticed that it also features often in Philippine tv broad farce sketches today - probably to tell the audience they're seeing something funny. As I don't understand Thai, I cannot be sure why these sounds are being added here. But if they are there to indicate a joke, it suggests that the writing or acting are not good enough to carry the joke themselves. The English subtitles don't offer any clues as to why the effects are there. Fortunately they are not too loud - but still an annoying distraction.

What works: It's about two young men who fall for each other - still a refreshing theme. All the other plots are very secondary. The leads are both good looking, and do have a chemistry. You're wanting them to get together. Longing, yearning for them to finally break down the barriers that are keeping them apart.

So, yes, I was sucked in, waiting for that first kiss - and what followed.

Sotus the series review

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show. Going into the show I was hoping it would be as good as I thought it would be. I wasn't disappointed not one little bit. I live the scene where the dude said what are you gonna do if you don't get a gear necklace. The main male student was like I'll make you my wife. But my the end of the show. I basically did make that dude his wife becuse they were together. I didn't mind the hazing scene. I though the scene were the two main dude where together were good. They had great chemistry together. The romance was fantastic. I Loved that they both were engineer majors. Even after months of being done watching this show. I still think about it all the time. Plus I know this is a show I will watch agian. That how good the show was. This is a boy love/ gay/ LGBT show. I recommend this show to everyone no matter the age.

Excellent!

This was such an excellent series. It was moving to see how the two characters fell in love over the course of the show. I started out hating Arthit but by the end I loved him. The facial expressions were on point and at times comedic which made the series that much more enjoyable. I was sad that it had to end. Wish there were more shows like this.

Simple and Breathtaking!

Warning: Spoilers
The movie is not the usual LGBT movies where you there are clubs, helping a drunk protagonist, accidental nude scenes or any cliché scenes. Rather, it focuses on the essential things which is love, being true to one's self, and to be in love and to stay in love. Not to love loud, but rather to simply love the person with all one's heart. Those are what makes SOTUS far different from any BL or LGBT drama series in the market. It's idea of love is so real, raw, and beautiful.

Best BL drama. Must watch.
gerarcega27 March 2020
I have never been so attached to a drama series. Thank you #Thailand and #GMMTV for being so bold in interpreting this genre. This will kickstart me in BL dramas. Gonna miss Arhit and Kong's cute moments. Sad :-(

Nice first season, missed opportunity on season 2
amheba5 June 2021
Nice love story and also nice to see the culture around universities in Thailand. Recommended. Only I felt they didn't take any chance for season 2 which is a repeat of the same formula of season 1 but set on the workplace. Also, it should be mentioned that the first 5 episodes of season 2 are extremely slow where nothing happens. On this season a male couple who have been together for more than a year is depicted, yet they show no physical affection whatsoever, showing themselves being shy about a simple kiss on the lips or cheek. For most of the season, more than a couple they seemed to me like best friends. I would have liked to see more about their relationship like in other BL dramas such as Dark Blue Kiss, which is also a second season and we get to see how they deal with problems that couples have.

So overall, cute, sweet but bland. Just a romantic comedy.

Fantastic

I'm getting to like foreign tv better than American Tv. Other than the subtitles I have to read this show is great and the story line is wonderful. I was hoping they made more seasons of this series but it probably won't happen. This is a must watch.

Even the king couldn't watch it anymore (lolen na)

SOTUS marks the beginning of CP promotion culture of its actors/musicians by GMMTV. Here starts the first pillar Krist-Singto. Most Bl fans must have studied the synopsis available on databases so I shall not repeat the same. Instead i want to emphasize on other elements.

Is the Casting team is to be blamed? Gunsmile, Neen, Jan, Fluke, Alice, Korn, Knot in supporting roles did a splendid work while Off and New to me have always been fillers with no imbibing charm or immense talent (Babii and Polca, stay calm and read) Singto, despite being in the spotlight, looks like a character artist rather a lead. I have absolutely no words for Krist, he is clearly hopeless at acting. Don't try to sell sandwich in a burger packaging. His face is as big as a pan, yet I can barely read any emotions. This project was sure a turner but for its content and screenplay. The seniors sugar coat their actions calling it 'igniting the flame of perseverance' after harassing their freshers for a while.15 long episodes felt like forever to finish. Tiresomely slow. It ain't your fault, Bitter sweet. I seriously fail to understand the incredible uniqueness behind ENGINEERING department. Its just one of the wings in a college just like any other. Personally i think this field includes more than just gears. I am worried if someone makes a GL version of this plot.

Addictive watch

Warning: Spoilers
Such a great show. I'm finding Thai tv shows so much better than what's on in Europe/USA. This was a lovely story acted out brilliantly and believable by the two leads actors. You find yourself getting really involved in these characters lives and hoping it works out for them. I saw myself in Arthit at that age, which made the series all the more poignant for me. I felt so much for Kongpob as he was giving his heart and having it broken so often. Thankfully Kongpob persevered and Arthit came to terms with his feeling and pure love of Kongpob. There's defiantly room for more than two series..

Doesn't hold up in 2021
simret-sekhon5 August 2021
I think at the time it came out, it must've been an amazing show but in 2021 it didn't hold up for me. They seemed problematic and abusive to each other so I wasn't feeling it and their chemistry wasn't as good as the bl shows coming out now. I get that original fans loved it because there wasn't many options and probably come back to rewatch it but I wouldn't recommend it. Also, it was super frustrating to keep up with annoying side characters which had no payoff or endings to their stories.

Unforgettable and Worth Repeating
m-8487015 November 2020
If you're into fluff and cloud9 stories, but with life lessons in between, this is for you! Looks innocent enough, but before you know it, you're hooked! You can't stop watching until you finish the whole series. The story is fast-paced and realistic. Gives you the feeling that you want to know what will happen next ASAP! For some people, they would probably easily relate to this story. There are also scenes that will make you think twice about yourself. You can learn a lesson or two, especially for the younger generation. All the actors are good, even for newbies. Usually, I see awkward moments in this kind of stories, especially if the actors don't have much experience in acting, but this one had close to none! High-level giggling going on. Possible lip-biting and covering of eyes. Tears will flow a little bit. Overall, fun to watch. Caution: ADDICTING! You will find yourself rewatching before you can stop yourself.

It's kinda silly yet mind-blowingly adorable
JeanDeMichaque13 April 2021
I couldn't help but rate this series with an 10, altjough it probably should be 5ish. The script is too amateurish, there is not really much happening beside the main storyline, nor is the acting outstanding BUT the two lead actors are such a sweet couple and although there is barely any kissing, their chemistry is so great and their love story so different than what we are used to in the west, that it melts my hearth.

Huge plus, the character development of Arhit throughout the two seasons from shy closeted guy to proud boyfriend of Kongpop. As Insaid, I can't help it, this series is too adorable.

Win for bl fans!
agnesispanand10 April 2021
Definitely giving this series a 10. I miss older bls so much. We can't compare this series to ones that are coming out these days. The new ones would look like a total trash.

First of all I would love to mention that this series are giving a lot of life lessons. It might look like they are acting too harsh on eachother but all has deeper meaning. After all, life as a student is hard, but amazing at the same time and series are showing this fact to us!

Acting is really good. I think role of Arthit really suited the actor, he knew how to put on a poker face but cute panic right after.

Kong was a wonderful character too! The actors look perfect together! I would aprecciate more sweet moments. Waiting for their first kiss was bit long, but it was totally worth it.

I would like to give a big pluse for Art's room! Yes his dorm room. I really liked the way they decorated it. This is how my dorm room on a collage is going to look like one day for sure!

If you haven't seen Sotus definitly watch it. I would recomend this to begginers as well!

A sign of progress
robtyrrell-9860718 December 2020
Don't judge this show by American standards: it's painfully slow, writing (or translations) is clunky and wooden, and acting is mediocre at best. Large portions of the 15 episodes are irrelevant to the central plot and tedious to sit through. And the central idea of hazing at a university is kind of repugnant.

HOWEVER...it's a sign of progress for the LQBT community in Thailand that this show even got made, and that it doesn't have the old-fashioned "tragic ending" (in the 80s, both main characters would've committed suicide or died some other hideous way).

The leads are both cute, and I wish they were better actors (that will hopefully come with time...or better scripts). In sum, this series has lots of flaws, but congrats to the producers for making a positive LGBT storyline in the first place.

First and best
sini-2004 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sotus the series is the best BL dramas I've seen. Actually, this was my first ever BL that caught my eye. Even I first watched this years ago when it first aired, it's still lingers on my mind and keeps reminding me when I watch other dramas. I think there's just something about SOTUS that just stays with you. I didn't think I'd like a show like this much and get so emotionally attached to the characters because the way they are portrayed is so beautiful. I really fell in love with the story and characters.

The stares and gazes between Arthit and Kongpob really tell everything and every emotion. The acting is superb, Singto and Krist do amazing with their acting skills - even with a cliche type plot. The ost in this drama is amazing and I kept on listening after every episode. Krist and Singto definitely carry the show on their shoulders but the secondary character's were nicely done even they could have gotten more development. I think the ending was very well done for BL and probably most satisfied as well, since you keep hoping them to get together haha. I'm a sucker for those romance cliche stuff, and even there wasn't much of skin or kissing - you don't need it. If the actors are superb, as they are, you don't need that stuff. Only their feelings, the small touches, the chemistry the longing and gazes are enough. Definitely worth a watch and even rewatch someday.

magical
yxkkyjj19 March 2022
One Year is a representative work. All the actors have online acting skills and good looks. Although the plot has little content, it still can't stop everyone's expectations for the second part. I hope that China can learn from it. Don't always shoot some magical dramas with good looks but no acting skills. You should tap more potential newcomers and don't cause the audience's visual fatigue.
