Professor Youens' trial is riddled with errors. The characters initially speak of it as if it were a sentencing hearing. In court, it's a jury trial. The judge allows untranslated Spanish testimony from the victim and doesn't offer the defense the chance to cross-examine her. The victim sits at the prosecutor's table as if it were a civil trial. The prosecution is never shown resting her case before the defense witnesses start testifying. The judge allows Lip to make a statement from the witness stand rather than responding to questions from the defense attorney.
