A pleasant surprise!
troy-daniel-bush28 December 2019
Monster girl animes in the past suffered from obnoxious imagery, unfunny raunchy humor, and a lot of panty shots, so it's reasonable to assume that this one would be no exception. But no! That's not the case! This is a slice of life show with so much to offer!

The opening title sequence sucks you in right away! Not only does it develop the main characters, it also features a very catchy song that honestly picks your spirits up, and sets the tone. Every single one of the characters is well-defined, likable, three-dimensional, and fun to watch! The voice acting is absolutely stellar, and you can tell the actors had a great time playing their characters! Which makes the experience all the more enjoyable! The comedy aspects are very funny, and there's a wide variety of comedy to enjoy! There are a lot of heart-felt scenes that will leave an impression on you. A lot of the episodes play out in ways that you don't expect. Quite a few of the characters' plights are relatable, despite them being monsters. Attention is paid to the buxom figure of Sakie Satou but it's strictly for the purpose of either comedy and/or character development. The re-watch value is insane! The animation is fantastic; it's smooth, bright, and very colorful!

As for the flaws, I felt that some of the writing was just average at times. Other times it's very well-done. Sadly, this isn't a popular anime and it deserves to be! I'm not even a fan of anime and I loved this show! They had better come out with a second season!

Interviews with Monster Girls

Warning: Spoilers
This anime series is set in a world almost the same as our own; the only noticeable difference is the presence of 'demi-humans'; vampires, succubi, snow-women and dullahans. These beings aren't particularly common and biology teacher, Tetsuo Takahashi, is curious about them. It turns out there is one of each type at his school; a teacher, who is a succubus, and three students. These are introduced in the opening episode and as the series progresses we learn more about their various characteristics and the problems they have living with their conditions. The more Tetsuo gets to know them the more he tries to help them.

I really enjoyed this series; it is told at a gentle pace but has a good number of amusing moments and more importantly has interesting characters. One might expect a series featuring a succubus to be fan-service heavy but it isn't… in fact the character deals with her condition by dressing in the least alluring way she can… there is the almost inevitable pool episode but that is fairly mild. The various types of 'demis' are dealt with in a good way; interesting questions are raised such as what does a vampire do if she doesn't drink blood and how does a dullahan eat when her head isn't connected to her body? The characters are well designed and the animation is good. Overall I definitely recommend this to fans of school based anime who are looking for something a little different. When it was over I was left hoping that there will be a second series some time.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Great idea and lovely characters

This anime is great for talking about how some kids are treated differently in schools in a cool way, the characters designs and relationships are also great! This is a really cool anime and I'm glad that I watched it because of how great it was and I hope this series gets a second series so we can follow on to their relationships and meet new characters too. Make sure you check out this anime series if you love characters with special designs and interesting/intriguing stories. This anime also adventures into the science of the characters as well and how they act with the characters evolving along the way.
