You don't have to be Australian but it helps
alchemical-3869226 July 2018
This is astute comedic political commentary done in a specific style, and is not to everyone's tastes, but it does gives a bipartisan take on the world of American politics (read: Trump's America). If you are a regular on Fox, this won't be your bag - but it also isn't a liberal satire like what Samantha Bee does. This is much more subtle, there's no name calling here. Honestly, the two presenters are ABC Australia regulars and seeing them riffing is a good reason to watch the show alone - however Planet America could be a lot better, but it is a (fairly) young show u can see the show has tried different ideas, to varying degrees of success. But when they stick to astute and observant comedy they are in their best element. Recommended

Great

A lot of people here are complaining that this is a 'leftist' TV show. I disagree. The ABC does have something of a centre-left bias, which makes a lot of their political panels and analysis pretty irritating to sit through. Planet America is an exception, and is very refreshing for that reason.

The show does make fun of Trump, that's true. And they also make fun of Biden, Harris, Pelosi, and the Democratic party. They make fun of all politicians - that's the point. It's part satire, part political analysis. Having a comical Trump impersonator narrate the president's tweets isn't left wing bias.

It's very strongly researched, and they delve deeply into the details while remaining funny and entertaining. I have not once heard the political, social, or moral opinions of the hosts injected into the show. They talk about how the politics works, how it is structured, rather than their own beliefs.

They interview people from all sides of the political spectrum. This is in contrast to most panels on the ABC, which generally consist of people on some part of the left all agreeing with each other and not addressing the opposing points.

Some of the interviewees can be a bit biased, bizarre or extreme in their statements or beliefs (on both sides). They should still be kept on the show: they are interviewed fairly, in an objective manner. They are there so that we can see who holds what views in US politics.

My only complaint are the short skits that have been appearing recently by Zoe Norton Lodge at the end. I get that she needs to promote her new show, but I really don't find them funny at all, and they're not exactly biting satire.

But overall a great show. Really hope they'll continue for a long time now that the election is over.

Topographic perspective of the American political circus/system
wdwhycyw25 July 2021
This show is a riveting viewing for political groupies and for anyone looking for salvation from the American media's perverted retrospection of politics.

The variety of guests ranging from academic experts to partisans along with well-researched segments detailing historical contexts enables for better exposition of the state of affairs in the US.

Strong, fact-based take on US politics
oke220612 August 2020
Great research goes into each and every episode, which covers federal, state, and local governing in America, as well as reporting on political-adjacent areas such as the Supreme Court, protests on all sides, and, of course, the horrid American media (Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc). One of the few shows on TV that backs up their claims with current research, and to the other Trumpian hacks reviewing this I'd suggest that "facts don't care about your feelings". This show, while heavily anti-Trump, doesn't pull punches from the rest of the US political class, either. Definitely worth a watch!

Facts with humour and integrity
quiddity-730 September 2021
Watched the team at The Chaser since the start, shine the light on politicians and issues of the day. Followed on to watch Planet American. It kept and keeps Australians sane with it's 'tell it like it is' approach. It's the only reason we survived the 45 era. It's an unbiased, factual, funny take on the US. Anyone claiming it's politically biased - only serves to expose their own bias.

Fantastic analysis

Best show on the ABC. I watch both the Wednesday and Friday show and would highly recommend the PEP podcast too. Chas and Dave are both highly knowledgeable. In a highly polarised field - this sort of show is desperately needed.

I love this show! It is factual and evidence based, and for those who claim it is too "leftist" they interview and talk to a wide range of people!

Appalling

This is a superficial, leftist program that is short of analysis and big on wishful thinking and opinion, namely those of the two presenters.

Absolute garbage

Warning: Spoilers
Just watched 5mins and turned it off. The reporting of a typical lefty fantasy world. Teletubbies is a much better sauce of news for current events.

Not worth the time
ropking31 January 2020
Sorry John and Chas but the show is consistently weak. Unsure whether it is an unfunny satire or lite documentary. Either way it just doesn't work, falling flat between genres. Chas in particular looks and feels completely out of place in his recycled t- shirts that were mildly interesting in 2016. If you take a look at some of the material on offer on US channels you will understand why the ABC should have given up on Planet America 4 years ago

Better of watching woman's AFL.Unfortunately for them Trump got steamrolled thus ending their continuous bashing of Trump which the small amount of viewers loved.

Telling ALL the facts
jamesmcgregor-6986421 October 2022
It's about time that all the facts were told not just a few that the presenters of they folks what was really happening then viewers would be able to understand what was really happening in the U. S. this show sounds like a leftist production designed to bad mouth the Republicans to Australians instead of telling the truth as they say don't let the truth get in the way of a good story even their percentages relating politicians are way of the mark I don't think these 2 presenter want to or know how to tell the facts of they don't know then I think they make it just to sensations half truths maybe they should watch a couple of hour of fox news befits running off at the mouth.

Disappointing Chas.
jcbase20 November 2021
P. A. is a top political show, informative and funny...with great interviews...the show is at it's best when it is balanced, however it does sway to the left often, especially John,as Chas rescues, thank goodness and rationalises topics. However ,Chas ,you were so biased and way out of line with one really important fact in the recent Kyle Rittenhouse case. Why were you so adamant in disputing the fact Grosskreutz was not pointing his gun at KR when it was so clear from all angles and moments of time he was, when KR shot?? The 2nd still picture you so enthusiastly pointed out was not relevant at ALL....did you see where KR's gun was pointing in this frame???..It was at his feet...Many angles clearly did show him pointing the gun which you seem to have overlooked. You were so disappointing Chas in attempting to suggest you were on a winner, hopelessly attempting to suggest guilt...All in the name of your left democratic slant. I am a fan of yours Chas, however you need to retract this misjudgement in your next show. Please do on behalf of many who questioned your waywardtheory...so the basic facts can prevail.

Please stay as balanced with left and right as possible Chas, keep John in check and your show will become legendary.

Regards John Connors,Wollongong.
