- After discovering that the baby is actually a girl, Dwayne confronts Cathy. She tries to lie her way out of it by saying that her late husband Nick wanted a son more than anything in the world. Fearing he wouldn't come home from Vietnam, she told him that the child was a boy, and when he died, she continued to pretend "Nicky" was a girl because it was her last tie to her husband. A skeptical Dwayne continues to probe, firing off one question after another. Cathy loses her temper. She tells him that she and her baby just want to be left alone. She's moving out of the hotel to get away from him and his persistent questions. Angry at her rejection, Dwayne coldly retorts that he's going, and he won't ever bother her again. On the plane back home, Althea recalls her conversations with Penny at Dave's house. Althea thinks to herself that John will have to get used to the idea that Penny is her first priority now. Cathy daydreams that Dwayne returns and continues badgering her with questions. While listening to the record, Hank dreams of Lauri singing No Way in concert. As the song ends, Lauri actually appears in his hospital room. He wants her to catch him up on the last few years since she left him at Municipal Hospital. He asks meekly if she found a rich husband and settled down, but she admits that the kicks went out of singing, so she gave it up. When he counters that she could still be a nurse, she tells him "no way." Dwayne phones the hot-line number that the TV station setup. He wants to report information about the kidnapping of the Aldrich baby. Cathy peeks out the window. It looks like it's going to snow, but she says that she can't wait. She and Nicky have to get out of there. She yanks her wig off and begins to pack a suitcase.—Skip Eastport
