Michael gets better and better
safenoe22 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of Michael Portillo's railway series and here he travels along the Mississippi River. We learn about Laura Ingalls Wilder (later played by Melissa Gilbert in Little House on the Prairie), and we visit a replica of her family cabin. There's even a festival in Pepin dedicated to Laura.

In this episode Michael dons a yellow jacket.

Michael meets the Dakota Sioux Indians in Winona, and partakes in the annual Dakota gathering, where he joins in a circle dance (dancing like Elaine Benes in the famous Seinfeld episode The Little Kicks), and admires the spirit of current generation of generosity instead of animosity. I only wish the Brexit supporters could adopt a similar spirit of generosity.

Michael travels to La Crosse, Wisconsin and explores the origins of sport from a native American game to a "white sport". Portillo learns to play lacrosse.

Michael is very different to fellow Brit Chris Tarrant who hosts Extreme Railways.
