Originally, the series was called "StarFox: The Animated Series" to coincide with the video games that inspired it. It was later changed to "A Fox in Space" to avoid potential legal action from Nintendo.
When asked about celebrity wishlists in voice work, Gafford stated that he'd want Liam Neeson as James McCloud, Matthew McConaughey as Wolf's father, and Michael J Fox as Fox McCloud.
The first episode took roughly one year to finish, while the second episode is only halfway finished ever since a year from the pilots release.
Matthew Gafford voices most of the characters, including Andross, Fox, Wolf, Falco, Peppy and more. A large part of the fans praise Gafford for his overall tone on Wolf, but Gafford considers doing the voice work for Wolf the easiest. The most difficult character for Gafford to voice is James McCloud, the father of Fox McCloud.
The original style of the cartoon was more comedic and light hearted. Gafford himself often jokes with the tag line "Hairfox" due to some of the characters originally having spunky hair styles. Thus after some revaluation, all the designs for the characters currently resemble a similar tone from the first two games. And applying a more grittier aspect to the setting.
