Cleverly balances tone and information in a way that engages while remaining distant (SUGGESTIVE SPOILERS)

I usually like films that give me everything in a neat package and has a strong solution. After Sophie is the opposite of that, but is better for it. Focusing on the suicide of the titular Sophie, the film poses as a documentary looking back at what led to this. This approach brings in hints of many genres and situations (from horror to tragedy) so that I was hooked into what happened, but yet also cared about those involved. This open-content approach is well balanced because it doesn't frustrate by its apparent vagueness, but rather draws you into all aspects of it.

The delivery is spot on in how it creates these various tones and atmospheres, from the creepy to the personally tragic. A lot of credit to writer/director Baig for this, her vision is what holds it together more than, for example, a good scene or an individually good performance.

A haunting little short that is worth several viewings for how it balances everything it does, and leaves the viewer satisfied but still interested.
