My Review Of "The Pining"
ASouthernHorrorFan17 August 2019
And the movie is as vague as the synopsis reads. Keep it handy, you may wanna refer back to it through the course of watching the movie. You will be as confused and full of questions as the generic detective struggling to solve this case. There's no consistency or proper train of thought going on to anchor the scenes coherently or to allow for the viewer to connect to the writer/director's vision.

There are moments that almost spark some legitimate indie quality. The scenes between the photographer and love-interest model flow easily and naturally. Unfortunately just as you let go of the irritation over lack of understandable story development, editing flaws come along to kill the mood. I swear I saw a couple of scenes play out in different variants of the same scene.

As far as the horror elements go, I liked the body count, I appreciated the follow through on the effects, even with such low-budget quality. There's a few cool kill moments in "The Pining". I have seen plenty of low-budget, homemade horror movies that have either created good horror elements or blew it totally. Now this film definitely blows it, just not so much in the horror, as in every where else. I don't recommend this one unless you just wanna see Tom Sizemore for what little time he is on screen.

Pine away

Warning: Spoilers
When members of Joe's therapy group start dying under mysterious circumstances, Detective Harris is forced to reopen a cold case. Her only lead: Father William - the group therapy leader who seems to know more than what is in his police statements.

This comes from Eduardo Castrillo, whose film Worth we covered last year.

The sale copy for this reads: "In the tradition of The Exorcist and End of Days comes a paranormal whodunnit that pits a detective, priest and photographer against unexplainable evil." Well, certainly these were movies and this is a movie as well.

Tom Sizemore stars as the priest and...well, he's trying. Right? And hey there's Miguel A. Núnez Jr., who was Spider in Return of the Living Dead and Dee Jay in Street Fighter. That's probably the biggest selling point of the film to me.

If you're streaming along and want to see a demonic zombie film with Tom Sizemore, well, I think there may be more than one option. But one of those is The Pining.

Cause its a human number, and the number is 999, or as the german would say, nein nein nein aka no no no, not another one with a lame story, dim acting, terrible soundwork and a lightproduction on power saving mode, makes this nuke of a thriller make you feel sick, and wish that the number of the beast had been different, and on the nova scale this film comes with negative digits.

tom sizemore, giorgio moroder or jahn teigen, its just names, and them on this casting list should be flagged and flogged forever in the name of the one we hallow.

in norwegian the films title word pining means to torment, and the slower the torments happens the worse the pain becomes, so stay away from this rotten fish of a film says the grumpy old man

Grows dumber and absurd enough to count as a parody
movieman_kev23 April 2019
Starts off a rather low-budget solitary zombie flick. Oh if it only stayed that way. Might have might a just ok short. MAYBE. However at even a mere 73 minutes or so it's still stretched ridiculously thin. The last 20 of which takes an already dumb film and triples down on it's stupidity. There's also a mid-credits stinger to sit through if you haven't thrown your remote through the tv at that point.

What An Awful Movie
aquarianman5210 February 2020
A bad movie so bad that I can't tell you how bad, but it is so bad that I advise you not to even think of clicking on the title and begin watching. If you do, you will hate yourself for wasting your time on such a bad movie. There are bad movies, but this one is worse than bad. Everyone involved in this travesty should be executed. I feel like kicking myself in the behind if that's possible. One star, and that is being very very generous!

😱 👎🏾 😩💩

This movie is so bad that I truly believe it had to be intentional. The script, acting, editing, sound, special effects were all horrific. This was not a horror movie but it was a horrible movie. This movie will be in the running for the worst film of 2019, and if there is a category for worst ever-it'll get a few nods there too! Is Prime Video so desperate for content that it is putting this out there? I can't unsee it and I can't get my lost time back from watching it-I kept hoping that it might get even a little bit better--it didn't! It really, really didn't! And I want my 1 Star back from the rating I gave because 0 Stars is most appropriate!

A solid Indie film with good actors.
jo-1426511 December 2020
The film has a very good ensemble of a cast., starring Tom Sizemore, and others. Its a solid story that takes you through its progression of a serial murder investigation. Its too bad they didn't have a larger budget to add some better sound design and FX. The film however is backed strongly by its story. Its a very solid Indie film.

Gripping horror!
theresahabela27 April 2019
Mysterious thriller/horror film about a number of inexplicable deaths centering around the members of a therapy group. And mostly surrounding a young wheelchair bound photographer and his assistant who is always playing the supporting role, unlike the beautiful models who are centre stage. Elements of zombie, horror, religion and dark forces throughout. Suspenseful and intriguing till the end.

Very Good Indie Film
js190623 February 2020
I really did not know what to expect before I watched this film. But given the fact that it is independently produced and had a pretty good story, I will say that it was well worth the watch. And also it is a fact when that actresses Jackie Dallas plays the lead detective in the film, that is another reason to watch this horror mystery. Tom Sizemore and Miguel A. Nunez Jr are also great in their roles as priests in this film. I would highly recommend this as a great watch and a must see.

I really thought I left a review here before but I guess I'll leave one here now. Really great digital copies available on Plex, Amazon, and Tubi, you're definitely gonna get bang for your buck there. Check it out and see these actors before they blow up big in their future projects.
