Step by step the audience follows the challenges in the life of a Principal Dancer. The glory of performance we all know and enjoy watching - its the build up that this film captures. In rehearsals we see the repetition to create muscle memory - we enjoy the interpretation of world class choreographers - we see what a dancer goes through on a daily basis. Very little is left out. Thiago Soares- who been with UK's leading Royal Ballet is the focus of this film. His career spans from his life in Brazil through to life in London with the RB. When he returns to Brazil audiences are able see how two different cultures embrace this star as their own. Its fascinating for anyone interested in ballet- and an eye-opener for novices. Many documentary style films have been made on dancers - but Primeiro Bailarino has the cutting edge because it doesnt breeze over or glorify the more difficult aspects in a dancers life. Thiago Soares comes over as a person who knows what he's about on and off stage. In some ways its a brave film. It's certainly a genuine comprehensive insight and i am very glad i have seen it.
