This updated documentary on one of the most notorious crimes in living history contains quite a lot of information that even dedicated crime buffs might not know, like the fact that the gun from one of the Tate-LaBianca murders was found by a boy, who had seen enough TV to realise he should not handle it. Then a police officer came along and simply picked it up.
It is always easy to take potshots at the police when a notorious crime has been unsolved for some time and the investigation does not appear to be going anywhere, but genuine criticisms have been made of them here.
We hear from Charles Manson himself, Vincent Bugliosi - who died in 2015 - friends of Sharon Tate (but not her child rapist husband and exile Roman Polanski), and many more.
Perhaps the greatest tragedy to emerge from this sad saga is the possible alternative future that is hinted at here. Manson was a talented songwriter; if he had not been ripped off but had been given his deserved shot at stardom, instead of wreaking his revenge on the world he may have gone on to become a positive force. But whatever claims have been made about his mesmerism, don't let his acolytes or anyone else kid you that he made them do it. We all have free will, albeit some have more than others. No one who butchers a pregnant woman can claim in all sincerity that someone else "made" her do it.
