Intriguing plot, slow build, Worth a go
daytamod-3811814 August 2019
The plot is quite clever. It revolves around a character Sam and his relationship with his friend Jay and Jay's sister-in-law Mia and their partners. Sam keeps having blackouts, something that has affected him since his childhood. His relationship with his friends takes a turn when a big secret is revealed that defines what happens for the rest of the movie, but more importantly, what happened to Sam as a child and what happens to him at present. There is a big revelational twist at the end. You can work out the twist quite early if you pay attention to the details (I got it about 25 min in). The opening story was a little slow but I can see they were trying to build the realtionships between the characters so you know who is connected to who. The film direction and editing is a little querky, but for a low budget film, you can't complain too much.

When the action starts, you are drawn into what is going on, but itching for the pace to pick up a little. All in all it is a good film with a few minor slow bits. If you like sci-fi / supernatural and low budget films, this is worth a go.

Pretty decent low-budget movie. Good story and concept. Could have used some better editing, it was little scrambled in some areas.

Interesting idea

An interesting idea for a film but not easy to follow, no rhyme or reason, loses it for me. Worth a look but not memorable

failed the 20 min test
A_Different_Drummer8 March 2020
One of the tests used by the late Roger Ebert is that the film has to hook you in the first 20 mins or else. Read all the positive reviews, really wanted to like this. but a half hour in, I had a headache bigger than the lead character. Ugh.

You only really know who you are when you have a gun pointed at your skull

Warning: Spoilers
This is a low budget sci-fi thriller. Sam (Drew Fonteiro) is an EMT who drives around with Jay (Marc Menchaca). They both have mental issues. Jay pops pills to stay sane. Sam has issues with his sister Sara (Frankie Hinton) who died when they were young. He suffers from blackouts where he can't remember what he did. The film starts out with a first-person point of view, which quickly changes. This is a clue as the film is filled with clues.

The film description and title give away what happens as Sam's mind goes to another person's body when he dies. Unfortunately, he is too stupid to say the right thing to keep from getting killed again and again.

Guide: F-word. Implied sex. Near nudity.

OMG! Please, Someone Hold A Gun On Me

Warning: Spoilers
I like slow burns. Movies that make you think. Twists. Supernatural. Low budget is fine.

The main character is unlikeable. He's not compelling. He walks around looking stupid. He's not attractive, the girl isn't either. Zero chemistry.

The only one with any acting chops was the best friend with the mental illness.

I wanted ALL of them to die already. I only made it through this garbage because I played with my phone the entire time.

And, no, staring at the screen wouldn't have helped.

No subtly, bad acting, annoying direction. People have to care about the actors. If there's a love connection, there needs to be chemistry.

Somewhat interesting. I was rooting for the side characters.
kking-6864125 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Somewhat interesting premise, in spite of the plot holes. Otherwise it had nothing going for it.

I hated all the main characters, and hoped they would all be dead by the end.

The angry abusive husband whose solution to everything is to kill people.

The main character who doesn't care about anything but himself - the summary makes it seem like he's trying to protect his friends but he's not. If he had just dropped it and left them alone they would have been fine. His own insanity caused most of the issues in the movie. I hated him at least as much as the abusive husband.

And then there's the love interest, who is cheating on her husband while he's deployed in the military, then when he comes home she wants to drop the affair and pretend it never happened. I didn't totally hate her, but I didn't like her at all. If she hadn't cheated on her husband and then tried to cover it up, none of the story would have happened.

The sister and her husband were the nicest people in the story, and they're just side characters who get screwed because they're friends (and relatives) of twisted, messed-up people.

Not enjoyable to watch in any way.

An unexpected surprise.
Sleepin_Dragon19 April 2020
Every time I die proved to be something of a surprise, initially I thought I was in for a bog standard thriller, but it turned out to be a rather unique, intriguing film loaded with twists and turns.

It's very well acted, I wouldn't say there's a particular standout, but everyone does a great job, Tyler Fleming is perhaps the standout, he's great as the villain of the peace.

It does perhaps take a little bit of time to get into its stride, but once it does, it's a rather exciting watch. I was expecting Sam to be one of those characters that wouldn't die, but the format was different.

Enjoyed it, 7/10.

Interesting movie
mudvayne-9024511 August 2019
This movie isn't going to blow your mind, but it is a well acted movie with a decent storyline that made me think about it. Took awhile to kick off and I would have preferred things to have happened quicker at the start so more of the movie could be focused around each characters change. If you enjoy low budget thrillers then give it a watch.

6.5/10. Recommended
athanasiosze10 April 2022
It's far from "mind-blowing", some crucial things remain unexplained and the first 20 minutes are indeed not very interesting.

Nevertheless, your patience will be rewarded as the story gets interesting and the pacing gets better.

This is a mystery/thriller that makes you invested, and in the end, you feel empathy for the characters. It's important to fully understand the final twist, it's not so easy to understand as you think, but, if you get it, you realise that this was a movie worth of your time.

Not a great movie, but good enough to watch it. Recommended.

Much better than the composite score and quite original

Warning: Spoilers
The 'twist' at the end is what elevates it from a 6 to an 8 or 9 for me. "Fallen" starring Denzel Washington has explored consciousness switching bodies, for instance. In that case, the evildoer doing the hopping instead of the victim in this film. The therapist in the flashbacks kept asking him who he was. He must have been telling his parents for months that he was "Sara" so they had him in therapy.

So Sam died in the lake many years earlier. Sam's body has been inhabited by his sister Sara since the moment of the death of her physical body. Years of therapy caused him to suppress that memory of his/her/their identity. It turns what could have been a 'by the numbers' supernatural revenge thriller into something a little deeper.

Sam, ultimately, kept his promise to his sister. He sacrificed his 'life' so she could live. "The gun to your head" is a metaphor. It's facing death in any number of circumstances including drowning when you find out what you're really made of. So it's really two movies. It's "Three Faces of Eve" meets "Ghost" but it's not quite as good as either of those movies.

The comparison to "Moonlight" are odd. I don't see any similarities in any of the characters or the genre or plot.

Good mystery and supernatural movie
farjam-company10 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At first the story goes slowly and during the movie keeps this pace, but after past half getting interesting about soul that attached to this world and due to what happened in past and made a deal with his sister he can not leave this world till protects the ones he loves. from my point of view the story is strong with good characters , players and acceptable visual effects. I recommend to those who enjoy watching supernatural and mystery movies.

Absolutely Terrible
dieselcheney10 March 2020
5 unlikable, boring and dull characters. A plot that never really makes sense and never develops. The flashbacks do nothing to add to the story and it gets really old that the flashbacks are just cut and paste of the previous flashback. Had to fight to stay awake and trudge through this movie.

The movie has potential. 30 minutes in there are too many flashbacks and main character Papi is unlikable. Skip it. There are better things on Netflix.

A half-hour movie jammed into ninety minutes... Warning: Spoilers
Despite some reviews here the body-jumping concept isn't new or original. Nor does the movie do anything interesting with it. The main character spends his time making a bad situation worse as he body-hops. It's hard to feel bad for him because he's the one that created the bad situation in the first place. One scene in particular is unintentionally funny. Unaware of what's happening characters get confused about who is having an affair with who. It suggests that this movie would have worked better as a comedy.

Horrible premise
treybaity3 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Most well put together waste of time i've seen in awhile. So what happens to the real ppl when he takes over their body and gets them killed? It was selfish, and the fact that he kept talking in 1st person about himself in other people's body's was really stupid. Confessing your love in a woman's body or in another man's body, so stupid. Acting was decent.

Interesting
Stealthy-229601 January 2022
I think the concept is great, but the consistency of the acting performances was hit or miss. The storytelling was ok, but could have been executed better if plot holes were resolved.

My rating; Concept 10 Acting 3 (due to the women characters, especially the sister) Storytelling 5 (due to plot holes and illogical decisions) Overall 6.

Had potential.
draciron24 November 2020
An interesting concept, but set in such a squalid setting with such really selfish and immoral people.

Basic plot, girl cheats on guy. Husband comes home from the war and things get strange from there with a really unlikable guy body hopping for a rather unlikable woman. All the while getting people needlessly killed to compound the initial error. All of them so wrapped up in themselves that the disaster which happens is pretty much inevitable. By the time the movie ends there's only one person you actually want to see survive it.

On the plus side, music, camera work, acting and such are quite solid. Writing is good aside from leaving nobody to root for really. After the ending you have to conclude nobody was really saved. The damage done made an alternate which probably doesn't exist more of a mercy than the way the movie ended.

If they had improved the first 20 minutes...
durham1004 May 2021
This is actually a very good movie, moving, thought provoking, clever and very well acted and shot. The problem is all that stuff happens after a very drawn out first twenty minutes which, reading the other reviews, is what is putting people off. It's a shame because after that it becomes something else altogether. I guess its like the film makers couldnt decide which way to go with it - at times it is a ethereal atmospheric drawl and then it becomes a full on thriller. Regardless, if you can get past the first 5th of the movie, then you will be pleasantly surprised. Oh, and despite being around a fair while I predict Marc Menchaca will find his Saul Goodman and go on to be massive within the next few years or so - he is an immense presence - not just in physical size! Somebody needs to write "that" movie for him.

does it really matter that it's Low budget ? nope not a tiny little bit
thelovetoy15 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
No i mean really come on. The film is strangely good, it keeps you thrilling you want to see what happens next you want to know more, you become Sam.

The Sound is well chosen, the filming is on point i searously don't see a Problem with too less Budget at all. I mean i am mad serious what are the people thinking now a days ?

*Spoiler part* The timing and Time usage is literally a masterpiece, it's started smooth and slow you get interessted in Sams life in Sams feeling you feel sorry for him not beeing openly together with Mia. And you start to get nervous bout that military Boyfriend. At the beginning you think he lost his sister while he still was young, bad thing i guess but nothing more , nothing really special about it. But the moment Bear showed Sam the video on the camera wher he told them he killed his Sister it starts to get thrilling really thrilling indeed. The next amazing thing in this movie is the way of story telling and the way after Sam dies his mind goes to one of his friends to reveal the excret of whom killed him. I really enjoyed this way of storytelling the way the story unfolds. i want to see more. It's a movie that makes you feel about death and life and accidents and things that form and shape your life. Even the one little Moment where you glance a thought that maybe Sam is Sara because as a kid he pretendet to be like her. I mean of course he was a kid and probably he just wanted his sister back but we still can imaginge that maybe a piece of sara became to Sam. I mean i think that's what the storyteller wanted to tell us that there is the possibillty and that i may be but it's not defined wheter Sam is Sara or was Sara or is just Sam.

But to come to an conclusion; It's an interessting film in an i guess unshown storytype with good sound nice fluid way of telling a story, never being to boring or to long/slow, and even the actors did a great job. I wouldn't change a thing.

And to conclude the thing with Budget, less Budget = you have to be more creative so less Budget is no not equal to a bad movie. It's more like all those spoiled movie watchers who think a movie should cost much and should have amazing effects and stuff. it's the same with everything now a days more and more never enough.

Agreed, if you like unique stories that keep you guessing, see it!'
MovieQween-3362228 February 2020
This has been on my watch list since the beginning of last year, I was finally excited to see it come to Netflix! I did of course read the plot but didn't read anything beyond that, I was intrigued because it sounded different. I won't say any spoilers because I like a good review from someone without giving away the twists. I will say, I really appreciated that this movie was unique and fresh. The main character dies about halfway through (listed in plot/non spoiler) but is plagued with strange behavior beforehand. We see constant flashbacks of the main character from his childhood throughout, which does play into the ending. The main character dies and travels into each of his friends bodies to try to explain to the rest of the group what has happened aka his death. Do not expect a ton of haunting or blatant supernatural things. It's more just of a horror/thriller feel. But like I mentioned, I was mostly intrigued and appreciated the originality.

BORING .. BORING ... BORING!!
gunn-wrights4 March 2020
I don't mind low budget films, and the acting was actually pretty good. It had a somewhat original premise, but didn't really follow through on it - there's so many other ways they could have went with this idea. Unfortunately, that's the only positive things I can say about this movie!! Everything else is GARBAGE! Even with the overall low reviews, I saw several people had given very high reviews - so, I gave it a chance... MISTAKE! The writing was lazy, the characters weren't developed enough for you to care if they live or die. Basically, I would call this a Soap Opera, which was canceled after the first season.

More of a love story, with some violence, and the rest is just awkward filler, making for a painfully SLOW movie! I kept waiting for the surprise, or some big pay off at the end - NADA!!

Don't waste your time!!

Bad Acting
BettyFoxBrown3 March 2020
If you're looking for a movie filled with cheap effects and a SUPER confusing plot that is not communicated well than this movie is for you. The acting was terrible except for the guy who played Tyler. Im so glad I didn't pay to see this movie in the cinema but I dont even think it had a wide release so no loss there. For the people in previous reviews saying that those of us who didnt enjoy this movie have low IQs, or they claim to REALLY enjoy this movie, I am willing to bet that those reviews are coming straight from the actors and actresses friends. Do not waste your time.
