If we are to believe the title of this Lumiere actuality -- and why should we doubt it? -- the audience is looking at a market in the capital of French Martinique. Like most of the company's actualities, it is well composed, and offers a glimpse of the ordinary in an exotic location. But is that enough?

It was shot, as were many of the company's foreign films, by Alexandre Promio. He went across the world, showing the films in his charge, arranging for permanent exchanges, and shooting films, which were then sent back to the factory, and copies sent out. In the early days, it was a great business model, but it was falling out of fashion. Besides, how interesting is another marketplace?
