A Very Well Made Game That Holds Your Attention
josephd-1808717 September 2017
Destiny 2 is the sequel to Destiny, the FPS made by Bungie Studios which received heavily mixed reviews. Some hated it, some loved it. Most agreed it was well made but lacked some important features, namely a coherent story. To some it scratched just the right itch that let then play it for years.

The story of Destiny 2 is a 6/10. Lasting about 15 hours for me and probably closer to 11 for someone else, it is pretty generic. Gaul, the leader of the alien race known as the Cabal, wants the powers provided to the players by a "Great Machine" known as the Traveler. He attacks the Last Safe City on Earth and captures the Traveler, ridding your player of powers. The rest of the story is you finding humanity's scattered heroes, reuniting them, and leading an assassination attempt against the Cabal. The story is told well enough and the dialogue ranges from cringe inducing to hysterical. What really makes the story is the well acted, well written, and interesting characters. Namely the former emperor of the Cabal, Calus, who was usurped by Gaul, and the megalomaniac himself. Gaul's voice is perfect and he is a thoroughly interesting bad guy. Calus is the exact opposite, where Gaul is militaristic, brutal, and conceited, Calus is opulent, indulging, and fun. It is quite a dichotomy I wish was explored more.

The design of this game is a 9/10 or 10/10. The gunplay is the best I have ever experienced, from the feedback of the guns to the enemy deaths, it is glorious and basically what supported the entire Vanilla first game. Many say that it is copy and pasted from the first Destiny, and to that I say who cares? If you found the best possible way to do something, why change it? There is the sound design, which is just fantastic. Each gun has a specific sound and exotics specifically sound unusual but perfect for how they play. The music is second to none. The worlds are just amazing, both in design and art. From the Vex world of Nessus clanging with alien robot activity and a giant spacewhale in the sky slowly consuming the planet to the stormy and ruinous moon Titan. My only gripe is that Titan's map feels too linear. Every gun, every enemy, every corner, every effect has been tailor made to feel amazing. For these reasons alone you should instantly discredit any review below a 6. Nor There is also plentiful stuff to do, from the lore filled Adventures to the epic cooperative strikes, to the addictive and skillful multiplayer to the end all- be all challenge: The Raid. There is easily weeks worth of content to do. I personally am 2 weeks into the game, doing the Raid and the premier pvp endgame: Trials of the Nine, and I still need to complete Adventures on every world.

What puts this game above the rest is the interactivity. You do not have to be alone in any part of Destiny, nor are you recommended to. Whether it is queuing up a 3 player strike or joining a clan or just screwing around with friends, this game is best served when you are playing with friends. It is hard to describe just why it is so great. But I assure you, it is.

All in all Destiny 2 is not perfect, but it is so fun and so full of things to do that I don't see putting it down any time soon. I now see what people with +1000 hours in the first game did. It is not for everyone, but I damn well hope it is for you.

Destiny Take Two: A wonderful Space Odyssey
pizzahutch1116 September 2017
In 2013, I saw concept art for a game that would become Destiny, and I was completely enthralled. The planets, the aliens, the gameplay, everything just looked so good. I waited patiently and followed the development of the game closely. And then I bought the game. After playing through the story quickly and eventually the 4 expansion packs, clearly it wasn't terrible, but it was missing something. It was missing emotion, humor, purpose and heart. But that's not what this review is about.

Enter Destiny 2. At first when I learned of it, I rolled my eyes and felt bad for Bungie, that they'd get lashed back against again. Even watching trailers for the game, it really didn't look that different then the first. But everything is changed.

Immediately after starting, the story already shows it's going to be great. Already stated on the plot summery(so no, this is not spoilers), a new villain cabal named Ghaul has come and wants the traveler. For retiring players, the first mission will definitely hit hard. Following is a long, complex story involving not only great characters from before, but new ones too. The story was perfect and I can't wait for expansion packs.

The game has also made life easier. Now you can access a map of your location whenever you want, and track places you wish to go to. Gameplay is fun and rare heroic public events and bosses pop up often -but not too often, giving opportunities to get some good gear. The maps are also massive, and very diverse.

The only thing to me that didn't get better or worse was the crucible. It felt the same, and lacked diversity of game modes. Even still, the crucible is quick, fast and fun, and still a hit.

Bungie knocked this game out of the park, and Destiny 2 has fixed the sins of the father. The future for Destiny 2 is bright, and I can't wait to see what comes next..

Destiny 2
Moviememmer1 November 2019
Pros:
  • Good gunplay
  • Graphics don't look bad

Cons:
  • Boring story and lame villain
  • Mind-numbingly repetitive
  • Loot loses value continuously
  • Lack of differentiation for most loot
  • Not allot of enemy types
  • Micro transactions

Verdict: Don't care what critics or anyone says but I think this is a terrible game. Almost all elements of the game is boring and tedious.

4 /10.

Looked good
kirstyabuchanan9 October 2018
The game is really good but a bit repetitive. Would have been better if there where more story missions, as the characters in the game a good just too little of them. Didn't really enjoy running around the same places all the time so got bored easily. They have created great lore, characters and graphics are beautiful, just feels like your doing the same thing everytime you play.

Forget everything you knew about the first game...
justin-fencsak19 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Cus this one is more harder than the last one. Gone is the ability to carry your leveled up guardian into the sequel. Instead, you're stripped of everything and have to level up all over again and meet up with new friends on a desolate planet as well as real friends in raids, nightfalls, and crucible and story missions that will determine your fate as a rising legend. The graphics are a huge improvement from the first game, as Destiny 2 is exclusive to next gen consoles and for the first time, PC, when it arrives on Oct. 24. The servers are pretty good and the controls are identical to the first one. Fans of destiny will feel at home when they boot up the sequel with memories of playing the first one shown before the beginning of the game.

Good Game not worth 60$ tho
tntchema14 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
this game is incomplete but a good game-play wise game strikes are fun and Bungie hasn't gone completely downhill but it's almost going there the story is meh but fun to play and there's micro-transactions the story:OK so white Darth Vader makes the white star his making guardians not guardians (?) so you go to the earth and reclaim a bit of your power and later after that you go and search for the vanguard and attack Gaul and his forces and win the end conclusion:it's an OK game with a mediocre story and fun game-play but not worth full game price and additional payments

Utter failure
jamesalmos26 April 2018
I was in the alpha for Destiny. Got top level within 24 hours in the beta. Was in a clan that ran every raid on release day (and once finished in the top 10). Played religiously from day 1 until we took every vet or noob in the clan through to Aksis until they had everything they wanted.

Then they started making progress unimportant, since 2 was coming out soon.

So I went ahead and got 2.

Lasted one night. A full, day-off-tomorrow night, but only the one.

A sequel is supposed to be the next thing. Not a skin on the old thing. Not a new class. Not a new character race/species. Not the *exact same game* with a couple minor mods on enemy AI and appearance. That's what you put in DLC. A new game should be NEW.

Don't get me wrong. Destiny is one of the best FPS/light-rpg games ever. The combat system, despite any balance flaws, is the smoothest and most natural thing I've ever played - i.e. try to think of something superior to drifting around a corner that's hiding an entire 6-man team, but, by the time you see me, you realize that drift was timed to end after the 1/2 second delay on a nova bomb.

That's just one cool move, and anyone who played Destiny has seen 100 more.

Yet, when we all got to Destiny 2, all we received was the equivalent of a (admittedly big) DLC. Nothing was truly new. They just charged us as if it was.

So, if you have daddy's unlimited platinum card and are the type that doesn't mind replaying a game that spends the entire replay pretending like it's a whole new experience, get this. Or if you just love a good FPS, especially for PVP, and don't care about story.

If you're like me (and I admit that all this is a bit pretentious), this one isn't worth the time.

Great potential, but it's not that good.
netatzili13 June 2020
There are so many aspects of the game that I absolutely loved. The graphics, the soundtrack, and the cast. But the gameplay was dry and repetitive for me, and you have to do A LOT of it to get to the interesting parts. The challenges and bounties don't really add any interest and the rewards aren't really worth it.

destiny 2 in an nutshell
frankie-smales17 November 2017
destiny 2 has an great story whereas it's predecessor was lacking of with no ingenuity when it comes to story narrative where characters either have very little or don't have time to explain down to lazy and poor scriptwriting but had an very solid loot system and grimoire you have to read via bungey companion but the loot system in destiny 2 is very worse then the first only way you can get loot mostly by either grinding public events or grinding for tokens and how easy it became to get items that was badly criticised via content creators on youtube who are destiny one veterans from d1 and it's pandering to those who has very little time to play and its single use shaders that you can use at one time not like in d1 where you can reuse them all the time and the other lazy concept of interesting villain's that uses the same tired trope of it should be me who has all the powers not you and I am going to rob you of it and Frank Langella was wasted by playing the second fiddle character not the big bad like he did in the he-man movie from 87 lastly the raid in d2 is the most hated in destiny history my raiting 8/10.

Good game - some terribly scripted characters
koxlcspot21 May 2020
Destiny 2 looks at first like a serious game for adults and it is appalling, how failed is Failsafe concipated and how stupid are dialogues between Failsafe and player.

This game is a 9. Until Shadowkeep.
icepoop11 September 2020
Let's just say that the game would've been much, MUCH better off if Shadowkeep didn't come out. Light was ruined, you can play the game for a few hours and probably have the best damaging weapons in the entire game, which makes everything way too easy, and sunsetting. Look it up, "destiny 2 sunsetting". No one likes it. I don't really have a problem with it personally but lots and lots of people do. Lore seems cool but is boring, there are 2 good characters, the world is massive but somehow basic, and Shadowkeep's actual main story was lackluster. If we are talking about The last season of Forsaken, everything changes. Armor was actually functional, there was somewhat of a challenge to everything, certain things being very difficult, and the game was fun. Crucible has never really been perfect, but it was better than it is now. The actual level of content was booming and power-leveling was very functional. The same can't be said right now, and almost all the pros I just named were taken away in Shadowkeep. At this point, the game is beyond repair, as in it will never be the same as it was. It can definitely get better. Bungie is working on things. They know that if this next update screws up, the game is done for. Something that is common in the Destiny community is that people complain about something, tell Bungie to fix it, Bungie tries to fix it and gets yelled at again. They can't make everyone happy, not with such a huge game. But I'm sure they'll get damn close to reaching something like that.

I really used to like this game in the OG days but when the campaign got removed and I got free they only cared about new players not the OG players its really a shame I use to like this game but not anymore even how beautiful the game is its super boring you can only play a campaign if you buy it the free stuff is just online to be honest I don't like destiny 2 anymore I hope they change things.

Thoroughly meh for the returning player.
Otkon21 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
While there is a story this time around, it is terrible. It makes very little sense. It is infuriating, corny and saccharine. *spoilers*

1) Like the fact that all the Sturm und Drang of the opening premise is negated two missions later by simply touching one thing after a mission where you can literally run past every enemy - something you can do through 80% of every mission.

2) Or the fact that after you lose your light, Ghost incessantly reminds you what a big deal that is because now when you can't die, he can't resurrect you. Except throwing yourself off a cliff immediately after he says that will result in a - you guessed it - respawn. I suppose by the power of Jesus or Superman or something.

3) Then at one point, we are told by a new NPC something "revolutionary" about the Vex that we honestly could have figured out for ourselves at anytime since encountering their innards...if we only had a microscope.

4) There is a tiresome injured/slow motion mission to drag the campaign out. There is no fast travel or vehicles other than a couple of tanks - to drag the campaign out. One of the tank mission is just plowing through stuff.

5) The dialog is overwrought. "I am more than just my light!"

6) The whole Almighty thing serves no purpose. None. How you do blow up the system with you in it? Dumbest threat ever.

7) A new Warmind that isn't Rasputin - who is the only Warmind and might be missing but might be this new one. Um. okay.

And on and on with the off-putting, ongoing issues of the console graphics, Sony-exclusives, micro-transactions, etc. 4v4 PvP is okay but again the same three or four modes over the same four or five maps. And Countdown is deplorably joyless.

What you are left with are the same guns, same enemies and same grind from the first game - just in a shiny new package. Yes, things are bigger and more, like the worlds, quests and patrols. But there is just not that much variety in all the excess. It still gets old quick. Especially for people like myself who have 3600 hours of actual gameplay hours on the original game. Yes, they streamlined a bunch of stuff like the faction rewards system but that doesn't solve the inherent issues with the game, it is just a re-skinned expansion of the first. I have already had 3600 hours of that. This needed to be something different than far more of the same. If you are new to the franchise, I'd say try it as your first experience because it is refined and playable. But for a returning player, I would wait for the collector's edition. Because this is in no way worth US$60 only to shell out another $30 every few months to keep playing.

This game is a 3.5/10 tops.

It's horrible game now
cjharris-8186512 May 2021
Destiny 2 hadls begun to help new players only. They don't care about all of us older players that had to purchase the game along with all of the expansions( which they have taken out now). And it's bad enough their are issues in pvp but now crossplay is coming and they have not taken any strides to deal with hackers, nothing has been implemented. I hope this changes soon. Because it is a dying game at this point.

An okay game, not game of the year
batemanlr23 October 2017
This game is mediocre at best, anybody giving this game a ten star is stupid. Sure, yeah it's better than the first destiny but that doesn't make it game of the year. The isn't a bad game, but it is not worth $100 for the full game. Yeah I said $100, because the expansions in destiny are parts of it's story and it doesn't feel right to me to suck the money out of the consumer for micro transactions and then pile on an expansion pass for $40. All in all it's an okay game, save your money for the real game of the year.

This game sucks
joebor-0067615 September 2017
Worst game ever made, somehow managed to be worse than the pile of trash that was the first Destiny. Bungie has really fallen from grace, go back to halo you guys. This game sucks, the story sucks, the multiplayer sucks, the raids suck, the strikes suck, the players suck, everything about it sucks.

Careless to the players, no customer services !
parcabral28 October 2020
!!!Before play this game make sure to read their policy agreement very important!!! The game looks amazing, some issues with network (make sure to have a good broadband to play this game) see below:

!!!Bungie may issue restrictions or bans to accounts that have consistent unstable connections when playing Destiny, as this negatively impacts other players.!!!!

Players who frequently quit or are removed from Destiny Crucible or Gambit matches may receive a restriction or ban. (Again make sure to have a good broadband)

For examples of application features that may not be compatible with Destiny 2 on PC, view our Destiny 2 PC and Third-Party Application Feature Compatibility article. (Meaning make sure to do not run any unknow program that may interact with destiny 2)

Get the game if you want to have some fun, it is free, but because they have automated services that can restrict or ban your account, I advise you to do not put any money into this game, the staff team of this game are really small in compere to a number of the players and if u have an issue and need their help see below their answer: !!!There are no guarantees that a ban or suspension will be overturned,(nor that the email will be responded to)!!!

The last advise make a new steam account to play this game, I know some people play in their work computers and destiny 2 game has an automated software that scan your computer so if u have a software working on the back ground and trigger their anti cheat your account will be done.
