One of the most mindblowing, insane episodes of any anime, ever.
drastrophd17 May 2019
If you have yet to experience this episode without being spoiled, I envy you. Everything about this episode is perfect. The OST, animation, and one of the biggest plot twists of the entire series... perfectly executed. My favorite episode of the series, and perhaps my favorite episode of any anime, ever.

Honestly, i had no clue.

Warning: Spoilers
I never even pictured in my head that the main antagonists would even be one inside the walls. Then it happened. It....was a groundbreaking plot-twist. This was one of the most incredible plot-twist in TV's history.

Also, my favorite at the time and the main episode which propelled me to watch the whole series in a flash. After this, i was totally into the show, like 100% and made me an absolute AOT fan. Truly an incredible work of art.

Astounding Episode.
kto-395247 May 2017
This episode was the first of this season to blow my mind, like S01E25 or S01E21.

I have no words to describe the music, perfect in every aspect.

A lot of things, leading one to the other to this ending, incredible.

If you come here to see why this episode is rated so high, look forward to watching it yourself.

The extraordinary music, the brilliant animation, the tension and the revelation. This episode was able to produce all kinds of emotions, and to maintain that state for 24 minutes. I really don't have more words to describe the episode, it needs to be watched to experience the piece of art that it is.

The most perfect masterpiece in?
TheFirst014 April 2021
Everything changes in this episode. Everything I had praised about the last episode "Historia" is dialed up to 11 in this episode. This feels like one of those episodes from Game of Thrones that is rated 9.9 because of its excellence. I can honestly say that i'm surprised this episode doesn't have a 10.0. This episode changed the show forever and literally was like a conclusion until the moment because it even wrapped up a lot of things that were being set up from season 1. This is one of the best masterpieces that I at least have ever seen.

Reminding me of the early days watching DBZ!!

Never have I ever wanted someone to triumph as much as I do in ATOT! This show and this episode in particular has this incredible ability to show heavy emotion.

With INCREDIBLE animation and music (I emphasise this heavily), the final act of this episode is like nothing I have experienced before in my relentless viewing of film and animation.

I have NEVER seen a revelation executed so perfectly. An intensely prolonged moment going from an OUTSTANDINGLY subtle shock to HEIGHTENED emotional out pour...a must watch!

Pure excellence in creating atmosphere and feel, but...

Warning: Spoilers
The transformation scene with Reiner and Berthold turning into their respective titans on top of the wall is one of the best in the entire show.

The animation is close to perfection and the remix of "Vogel im Käfig" never fails to give me goosebumps regardless of how often I watch it.

Sadly, narrative-wise this scene didn't achieve the emotional result that it was going for, at least for me.

Reiner and Berthold have way too little screen-time throughout the show for this to feel like the grand betrayal that it is going for and their characters are not nearly fleshed out enough, at least not in the anime (not sure about the manga). Heck, Berthold maybe says two sentences throughout the entire show up to this reveal.

Had we at least gotten 1 or 2 scenes of Eren spending time with Reiner, getting to know him more closely and perhaps trusting him with a personal secret, this could have worked.

The first time I watched this scene, my reaction was litteraly "Whoa, they're the titans...wait, who is that again?"

Also, the fact that this is the 4th time a human is revealed to be a titan in the show doesn't help (Ymir was literally revealed to be a titan in the episode before this). Had only Eren been revealed to be a titan up to this point, this could have been a much bigger shocker. But now Annie is a titan, Ymir is a titan, Eren is a titan, suddenly everyone is a titan?

I watched it again with my girlfriend and she also wasn't sold on the reveal, which is a pity because it truly is one of the most atmospheric and epic scenes that I have seen in television. It just doesn't fully earn it in my eyes and doesn't come close to being one of the best betrayals in television history as many people seem to claim.

If you're skeptical of AOT's ratings, read this --NO SPOILERS--
kellenevoy22 June 2021
The 10/10 rating for this episode is not a mistake. It's not caused by fan-boys. It's not because of anime bias. It's because of masterful storytelling. This isn't your typical anime story that the author conjures up week-by-week to meet comic book deadlines -- AOT is pre-meditated start to finish with meticulous detail and foreshadowing.

This episode, particularly the emotional impact of it, far exceeds any and all expectations. The storytelling and manner in which the plot unfolds sets a completely new bar that I'm afraid won't be reached by other media any time soon.

If you're reading this with doubts that an anime could have such a high rating, watch the show. Pick it up right now. It doesn't matter if you like anime or not. Just grab a snack, and force yourself to watch the 20-minute-long pilot episode. AOT is nothing short of a masterpiece.

The Best Attack on Titan Episode Behind 'Hero'
derpface-416399 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I first watched this episode when Season 2 was still airing weekly back in 2017 and I still watch it to this day and get goosebumps, it is mindblowingly sensational. The reveal of the Armored and Colossal Titans was breathtaking. The OST complemented the moment incredibly. The animation is so beautiful in this episode. The voice acting is also impeccable, in sub and dub. Everything in this episode was executed perfectly. This show is a classic and a must watch. Many people gave up after season 1 or read the manga soon after but I stuck with it without spoiling what's to come from 2013 to 2019 and I will be watching the fourth and final season in fall 2020 even if it's not animated by WIT Studio. I honestly can't believe how good this episode is.

I want to address the people calling the reveal terrible. Firstly the reveal is genius, it was done in such a unique way which certainly caught me and many others off guard. Reiner said that he and Bertholdt were the Armored and Colossal titans so casually because he was conflicted, he had a split personality so it makes perfect sense why Reiner would reveal it in this way. No one could guess how this reveal would turn out, that's the point of it, the writers were one step ahead of the audience the entire time, they knew that we probably knew that Reiner and Bertholdt were the monstrous titans who tore down the walls as they had been acting suspicious in prior episodes, so they subverted the viewers expectations in such a genius way. I can't explain with words how masterfully done this episode is.

An absolute epic. One of the best climaxes in entertainment history.
walter-082249 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was lucky enough to watch this episode without the reveal being spoiled. It's an incredible experience in every sense of the word. Attack on Titan season one had many amazing and mindblowing moments. Such as Episode 21. But this might be the greatest moment in the entire show. This episode begins very calm and quiet. It's lures you into a false sense of security. It makes you believe it'll stay slow paced but once the revelation happens it quickly turns into a masterpiece. It's just a tremendous scene in every aspect. The music was gorgeous and gave me chills. The voice acting is also perfect. The Japanese and English voice cast did a wonderful job conveying the emotion of the moment. The animation was fantastic. I just loved the moment when Eren first saw the Armored and Colossal Titans appear through the smoke.

The way this reveal was executed was so unexpected to me. First Reiner reveals his identity politely because he was still thinking about Eren as his friend. But that's when he realized which side he's on and who his enemies truly are. The show already hinted at Reiner and Bertholdt's identities throughout the season, but they did something very risky and original and it paid off in one of the finest moments in television history. I've seen Breaking Bad, GoT, Sopranos, etc. But i believe Attack on Titan is right up there with the best of them. This episode gave me a feeling i will never forget.

Fantastic
umlaziking3 October 2020
Oh man, what a brilliant episode, i really feel like it deserves a 9.9 and not a 9.8. The way the story and dialogue between the characters flowed was just unbelievably masterful and unpredictable to the core. It really shows us why attack on titan not only is it the greatest anime, but its also the greatest tv show of all time. Yes ive watched tv shows like breaking bad and got....but these two dont hold a candle to this masterpiece, really enjoyed it.

Can't believe the twist is so massive that I'm sure each of our minds were shred to pieces. AOT is definitely one of the top 3 anime's of all time if not the best. For me, it's best though.

It will blow your mind.
joyconboyz30 May 2021
The fact that there exists a writer intelligent enough to write this is what blows my mind more than anything. Not only that, but there exists a composer capable of producing a score this epic. Isayama and Sawano are the GOATs!
