Just another gangster flick! [+40%]
arungeorge135 July 2017
The basic premise of Vikram Prabhu starrer 'Sathriyan' is one that has been done-to-death in the history of Indian cinema. A rowdy- gangster who turns over a new leaf owing to the newfound romance in his life isn't exactly the freshest synopsis to speak of. So, the novelty needs to show in terms of treatment at least.

However, 'Sathriyan' supposedly seems content sticking to the bare minimums. The action choreography is quite dull. The exchanges between the lovers and other family members at times evoke the vibes of a TV soap. The initial few scenes are absorbingly packaged but the film runs out of gas soonafter. There is literally no back-story for any of the lead characters or their purposive moulding into thugs/gangsters. The viewer barely feels like backing the intentions of any of these personas. Vikram Prabhu is okay in his portrayal of Guna while Manjima shows slight improvement from her previous flicks. Kavin and Aishwarya Dutta's characters served no purpose whatsoever and end up being filler. The rest of the ensemble fulfill their jobs at a very basic level. The title theme is catchy but the rest of the compositions by Yuvan do not leave an impact.
