It’s that time of year again when, after networks have announced their new fall schedule and new television season offerings overall at upfronts, the studios behind the shows present screenings of their hottest properties for the international television market.
Fox co-CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman may have boldly declared this year that they would be focusing on programming for the American marketplace — “As other networks are focused on monetizing ownerships of their shows, they need to program with an eye to the international market,” Walden said — but their’s is an outlier approach. All other nets are still developing with the overseas buyers in mind — as are studios who are monetizing through ownership.
Here, Variety lays out the new series priorities for eight studios at this year’s L.A. screenings.

This week the five broadcast networks each unveiled their Fall 2018 TV schedules ahead of their upfront presentations, complete with new series orders and returning favorites.
The Tim Allen sitcom “Last Man Standing” has jumped ship from ABC to Fox, and while NBC salvaged “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from Fox, fans will have to wait until midseason for that show’s sixth season return. CBS’s revival of “Murphy Brown” and “Magnum P.I.” hope to be an answer to the success of ABC’s “Roseanne” reboot, while the CW has a reboot of their own in the newly picked up series “Charmed.”
Some of the promising new shows include NBC’s comedy “I Feel Bad” getting the lead-in from “Will & Grace,” Lil Rel Howery’s Fox multi-cam sitcom “Rel” getting the lead-in from “Family Guy” on Sundays, and “The Kids Are All Right” scored a coveted lead-in from “Roseanne” over at ABC.

36 new shows have been ordered for next season (down slightly from 39 last year), with certain producers and their production banners locking down multiple projects across multiple networks. Greg Berlanti scored three new shows this year, the same number as Aaron Kaplan and Kapital Entertainment. Julie Plec, whose sole remaining CW series “The Originals” is poised to end this season, will stay on at the network with two new shows.
Here’s a look at which producers will be the busiest this coming season.
Aaron Kaplan (Kapital Entertainment) & Wendi Trilling (TrillTV)
Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment banner will have three new shows on the air next season: the ABC drama “A Million Little Things” and the CBS multi-cam comedies “The Neighborhood” and “Fam.”

2018-2019 Upfront Studio Scorecard: Volume of New Scripted Series Drops as Biz Faces Big Transitions
The logline on the 2018-2019 network TV development season: A glamorous business in the throes of transition grapples with unseen forces of disruption and the empire-building ambitions of its alpha-executive leaders.
The major studios ended upfront week with fewer orders for scripted series from Big Four networks and CW compared to the past few years: 34 this year compared to 37 at this point last year. So far, enthusiasm among ad buyers and industry-ites for the new shows has been fairly muted, with none of the newcomers showcased during the week’s parade of programming presentations generating heat a la NBC’s “This Is Us” in 2016 or CBS’ “Young Sheldon” last year.
In a year of reboots, last-minute rescues and ownership concerns driving pickup and renewal decisions, it’s a tough time to be an independent studio. At the same time, co-production deals on shows that originated at other studios bolstered the...

The Neighborhood looks like a hoot.
CBS has released the first trailer for the series which stars Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, Dreama Walker and Hank Greenspan.
The premise follows the Johnson family who moves to a deprived Los Angeles neighborhood and find themselves scrutinized because of how nice they appear to be.
In the trailer alone, you can see Cedric's Calvin up in arms at the way Johnson family patriarch, Dave speaks to him.
The trailer includes Josh Lawson as Dave Johnson, but there was a recast after the show landed a series order at CBS and New Girl's Max Greenfield will assume the role.
If first impressions are everything, then The Neighborhood has a lot going for it. The cast alone is great, and most of them have roots in the world of comedy.

Well at long last it’s the CBS upfronts, and they’ll be bringing us 9 new shows for the 2018-2019 season with 6 of them released in the fall and the others as mid-season replacements. For now, we’re just going to concentrate on Fall shows as we’ve done so far.
So, their Monday lineup brings us 3 new shows starting with, The Neighborhood. Cedric the Entertainer stars as an opinionated neighbor in a comedy about what happens when the friendliest guy in the Midwest moves his family to a neighborhood in Los Angeles where not everyone looks like him or appreciates his extreme neighborliness. When Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield) and his family arrive from Michigan, they’re unfazed that their new dream home is located in a community quite different from their small town. However, their opinionated next-door neighbor, Calvin Butler (Cedric the Entertainer), is wary of the newcomers, certain...

Exclusive: Dick Wolf’s new CBS drama series F.B.I. is recasting a co-starring role. The part, Ellen, was played in the pilot by Connie Nielsen.
F.B.I., a co-production between Universal Television and CBS TV Studios, chronicles the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Ellen is FBI Special Agent in Charge. A deeply respected boss, she is elegant, cultured, and operates under massive pressure – political, public and self-imposed. She deals by being highly organized and disarmingly direct. She’ll do anything for her agents who earn it, and is impossible to intimidate.
The cast of the show includes Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Jeremy Sisto and Ebonée Noel who all were on stage today during CBS’ upfront presentation. The series landed the plum post-NCIS Tuesday slot on CBS’ fall schedule.

CBS kept broadcast week of upfronts rolling on Wednesday with its presentation at Carnegie Hall. Here are the five key takeaways:
1. Leslie Moonves is the CBS brand.
CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves took the stage and received a standing ovation from a sizable portion of the crowd, with others cheering and whistling. It was not a typical upfront reception for a TV exec. “So how’s your week been?” Moonves joked as he kicked off his pitch to advertisers.
Moonves’ week has seen him engage CBS’ controlling shareholder Shari Redstone in a shocking fight with the company’s future, and his own, at stake. But his upfront reception underscored one of Moonves’ most valuable assets in that battle — his track record of success and the clout that it has earned. And as Moonves illustrated when he noted that he has been CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl’s boss for 22 years,...

CBS’ fall 2018 schedule includes seven original scripted series with people of color in leading roles. The number represents a significant uptick for a lineup that has for years been criticized for a dearth of onscreen inclusion.
“We’re feeling good about our diversity,” said CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl, who spoke with reporters Wednesday along with top CBS programming exec Thom Sherman at a breakfast where they revealed the network’s fall schedule.
After the two execs were elevated to their current positions last year, they faced a barrage of questions about diversity and inclusion at the Television Critic Association summer press tour. On Wednesday, Kahl said that growing the level of inclusion in the network’s programming had been a priority going into this development season.
“We sat in front of a lot of you at TCA and said that we were going to do it,” Kahl said. “I...

“The Big Bang Theory” isn’t over yet, if CBS has any say in the matter. The smash half-hour sitcom is renewed through this upcoming season, the show’s 12th, but the Eye network is already looking to negotiate more.
The show, which ended Season 11 on a huge note with the wedding of Sheldon and Amy, remains a juggernaut for CBS. There have been plenty of indications that this season may be the show’s last — but CBS isn’t ready to say goodbye.
“As long as [executive producer] Chuck [Lorre] and his team think they have stories to tell, we would certainly hope to get a few more years out of it,” said CBS Entertainment senior executive vice president Thom Sherman. “It’s not slowing down. It has zero loss from a year ago.”

Many actresses tried out for the iconic role of Lois Lane in 1978’s Superman, but of course, only one got the part: Margot Kidder.
In memory of her death earlier this week, The Telegraph took a look back at how the memorable character came to life in Richard Donner’s version of the superhero story. Ann Archer, Stockyard Channing, Deborah Raffin and Lesley Ann Warren all went up for the part, but director Donner liked Kidder’s chemistry with Christopher Reeve, who played Superman, best.
Kidder died Sunday at her Montana home at age 69. Her cause of death remains unknown.
