Stands the test of time

Walk Like an Egyptian is a catchy song, and I love the video. It's hard to believe this song is nearly 40 years old! But definitely it stands the test of time for sure. I'd love to see a rebooted video for this song, perhaps filmed in Egypt.

Don't really see this as a classic

"Walk Like an Egyptian" is a song by the female-only music group The Bangles and here we got the music video released in 1986, so already over 30 years, almost 35, maybe more depending on when you read this review. This slightly over 3-minute music video directed by Gary Weis is still among the very biggest hits from The Bangles and also from the 1980s you could say. It sure does look very 80s. Here we have in my opinion the rare occurence of a song where the chorus is nowhere near being the best part of it. Th EO EO and some other lines feel catchier and more interesting to listen to. If you could say "interesting" at all. In my opinion, it is not a good achievement and the music video is even weaker. It is mostly random concert recordings edited together and near the end especially on 2 or 3 occasions we see people walk like Egyptians on these old archeologic drawings by holding their hands in a certain way. You see the photo also here on imdb, the one I am referring to. So overall, I liked this a bit early on, but at under 4 minutes it already lost all appeal for me basically, which is why overall I give this a thumbs-down and negative recommendation. 2 stars out of 5 only and the Bangles (all around the age of 60 now or slightly over/under) have done better on many other occasions with more meaningful songs (lets be honest here, the lyrics are as empty as it gets) and also with far more catchier tunes. This is nowhere near their best. don't trust the hype.
