A video featuring a rock star or group performing their hit song is always cool even though the format and idea for it is already worn out, missing a higher appeal...except when we're talking about the out of this world genius David Bowie. With "Modern Love", he and his colorful group deliver a live performance that blows your mind with presence, energy and attitude at the same time all you're seeing on the surface is an artist performing with full power and nothing more.
Not just Bowie but also his band - Tony Thompson on the drums, and more noticeably the male backing vocals, a duo wearing hats and multi-colored outfits, very charismatic and enthusiastic guys. And the whole junction of people, elements and bright reality makes this as one of the finest videos of its kind. And the chameleon of rock gives us an electrical and catchy song, one of his top moments in the 1980's. Positively unforgettable just as the weird image of Bowie getting a flower bouquet from someone in the crowd to later throw it back to someone on the other side of the audience. 8/10
