One of Coldplay's greatest moments of all time

My very first contact with Coldplay was with this perfect single and my love for it hasn't faded or changed it over the years. I listen to it everytime I can and still have great memories of when this video was released and was the talk of the town in 2002. Two decades later and its power remains on listeners, due to its melancholic sounds and lyrics. "In My Place" gets a typical performance video yet somehow it manages to bring something more to the debate, or at least some subtle changes that create some mystery and some fun to the viewing.

Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion perform the song in a practically clear set, with some girl seated in the background of whom Martin greets in one sequence where he has to run all the way back to the microphone to sing before the solo moment. Some interactions of Martin with the camera, playing with it makes of this video carry some fun peculiarities that make it different than the usual music video performance - though it can also be distractive since he sings about certain emotions and situations that are suitable for a more sober and quiet performance. But if the idea is to make the best of a video or follow some unusual instructions by the filmmaker then he's fully enjoying himself here.

A nostalgic trip of the senses and of the mind, "In My Place" is a must for any Coldplay fan out there, specially the more recent ones who didn't know then back when they were more rock-oriented rather than the colorful crowd-pleasing pop act they became over the years (of which I can't stand it). They're cool but back then they were a glorious giant and songs like this, "Trouble", "Shiver" and others, are a clear proof of that, and even with a simple concept presented in this video they managed to make the experience far greater than a simple act of performance. 9/10.
