4/10. Watchable but not recommended.
athanasiosze6 March 2022
The actors are terrible, the script is ridiculous, the editing is messy.

Nevertheless, i give it 4 stars because i like free climbing and there are some nice mountain shots. And there is tension.

This is not a good movie, it is often unintentionally funny but it is also somewhat amusing. If you are seeking for some mindless fun, there is a chance you won't regret watching this.

High Octane Thrills That Works Despite Some Awful Dialogue
flowerstardust19792 February 2022
This was rather bittersweet in terns of being a great thriller. On one hand you've got a great story, high tension, horrible villains, great cinematography ect...On the other hand you've got 3 bad actors, terribly cringeworthy lines and some serious face palm moments.

However, it still succeeds as an edge of your seat thriller despite it's bad points. With pretty much unknown actors and I assume shot with a lower than average budget it does work very well with and the intentions of the story pay off.

Too low budget, but compelling nonetheless.
benjaminskylerhill10 July 2022
It certainly suffers visually at times from the film's obviously low budget. They simply did not have the money that they needed to pull off some of the script's more action-packed sequences, especially toward the end.

The actors are all satisfactory, but none of the performances stick out as being memorable.

What kept this film very much afloat for me was the compelling characterization established at the beginning that kept these people interesting to watch for the story's entirety.

Each of the three men is distinct in their attitude toward the crime their friend Josh commits, and I found myself really interested to see what they would do next and how they would adapt to their friend's psychopathic tendencies.

Josh, as a villain, was cold and truly sociopathic and intimidating. He's written better than the actor portrays him, but it all gets the job done.

The lead character, Kelly, has a past that makes us want to see her succeed, and she is smart and resourceful enough that I kept rooting for her through the whole thing, pumping my fist in the air whenever she got the upper hand.

The Ledge isn't a paragon of depth, nor is it especially well-crafted, but it's a solid, well-paced contained thriller with a little more meat than average on its lean bones.

More boring than funny
bitbucketchip1 September 2022
This is a bad movie.

Two girls are in a cabin preparing to scale a mountain face the next day. You learn later neither knows the first thing about mountain climbing - we're talking dropping your gear, not zipping your pack, not caring for your hands level of incompetence. Four thirty-five year old college frat boys arrive and the six of them decide to party together.

One thing leads to nothing and a guy tries to force himself on one of the girls. She runs off. The guys then decide the best thing to do to avoid a possible sexual assault charge on one of them is a double murder charge on all of them. Talk about loyal friends! They manage to kill one girl. One murderer promptly falls and dies.

What follows next is an hour of four people-who-can't-act climbing around a rock face about six feet off the ground. If that sounds dull let me assure, it's worse. It isn't helped by the fact Kelly seems to go out of her way to imperil herself in as stupid ways as possible. Night falls, instead of using the dark to her advantage, she sleeps in a tent. She screams to give away her position. She climbs vertically instead of horizontally. If it'll make her situation worse, she's up for it.

Three stars for a potentially gripping plot. No stars for not even trying to hire a cast of people who can pretend to act, for exactly zero suspense, and for the most amazingly inane dialog ever uttered on screen. Three stars.

A watchable B film.
Top_Dawg_Critic2 March 2023
But only if you're really bored and have nothing better to watch. You will also have to be able to suspend disbelief, especially if you have any knowledge of mountain climbing, because that area of expertise was clearly overlooked by the filmmakers for any level of realism. You might be ok if you've done some indoor wall climbing a few times.

Finally, you will also have to put up with more plot holes than the cliches, overacting, ridiculous dialogue and the entirely predictable narrative. On the bonus side, there were some true tense scenes, a decent score and excellent cinematography. The pacing was also fairly decent so that all the good and bad fit comfortably in the short 86 min runtime.

Will somebody please explain to me how movies as poor as this and with such ridiculous story lines actually get funded? Acting is clearly low budget but the stupidity of the story just becomes irritating!

Pretty impressive for an indie movie
kipper-1221 February 2022
I'm not into thrillers, but I like climbing and I was keen to see some nice mountain scenes. I ended up liking it: acting, cinematography, editing, even the plot was good after a slow start. Definitely recommended.

Pushing the viewer off the edge
Stanlee10716 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is one of those films that pretty much goes straight into the action scenes very early on. The protagonist is a struggling heroine that is coming to terms with something "traumatic". It is a road to rendition film that does not quite succeed in its quest. Instead it leads the audience down a one way path to an empty void of broken promises & delivered less than this!

The antagonist is the worst part of the film. I don't know if it is the actor or acting or the script or both. He is a caricature of "the evil antagonist" that gave me that shake-my-head moments throughout the film. It is insulting that the writers would think the audience would buy into this villain.

One could argue it is a lazy person's writing to introduce a character that is evil without giving him a credible back story that explains why he is that bad.

It beggars all belief in humanity that a character could be so poorly drawn that a stick figure would be considered a masterpiece compared to this. To call him a cartoon villain would be an insult to the artist. I'm sure you can get the gist of what I'm saying. Please avoid this unless you are accustomed to watching a below average films.

VIEWS ON FILM review of The Ledge
burlesonjesse524 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"I tried to be nice". Yeah right. The antagonist in 2022's The Ledge is anything but. He's a despicable human being named Josh and is played by Brit Ben Lamb. Never have I wanted to see a bad guy die more in a movie than in this one. I mean never. Talk about an unlikable prime mover.

Anyhow, The Ledge rounds out at 86 minutes and was released in February of this year. "Ledge" says it's a mystery thriller but whatever. This is more a minimal build-up snuff film, where director Howard J. Ford wants to promote gratuitous violence just for kicks-and-giggles. When people bite the dust in The Ledge, it's savagery of the Tarantino kind. The more unnatural the better.

The Ledge as a bad taste version of 1993's Cliffhanger, takes place in Italy (I think they mentioned that but I'm not totally sure). It's disturbing, sometimes compelling, obviously shot on a sound stage and well, implausible (those malefactors really know how to get from point A to point B in a jiffy).

"Ledge's" story is about a couple of female mountain climbers who encounter four men at the same climbing site. When one of the girly climbers dies by murder, the other one captures the event on video and has the same dudes hunting her down to get said video tape.

There's a "no witnesses left behind" vibe with "Ledge" and director Ford knows this. He's not interested in the viewer having any real sympathy (or empathy) for his model-like, millennial characters. He'd rather show you how many ways some poor soul could get his/her head crushed on a summit.

The performances in "Ledge" are decent. The suspense is kinda there for the taking. But what's up with Howard J. Ford trying to make The Ledge into a sensationalized, shock-for-schlock horror pic that almost deflates any dramatic momentum? I got into The Ledge shamelessly but almost "stepped back from it". Natch.

How do they get funding for such horrendously written, badly acted trash?

Don't even get me started on the totally ridiculous climbing scenes. UTTER garbage.

Oscar for worst movie of 2022 actually worst ever!

I loved it, watch it.. Just don't be too critical

This is one pleasent surprise. I actually liked this movie. Right from the first frame it keeps you hooked , and does a fine job till the end. Yes, it has some filmy over the top moments, but c'mon it's a good thriller overall. Such movies should be encouraged, all the actors played their part well. The rock climbing scenes have been filmed well too , yes there is obviously some CGI but it doesn't look cheap. Screenplay and story are good to keep you entertained till the end.

Good job Mr Director and crew.

"Fall" movie wannabe
funnycommentor21 December 2023
First of all, when I first watched the official trailer of the movie I really liked it and I had high expectations about it. Eventually, it was as good as I had imagined and I really enjoyed it. The plot of the movie was very interesting and mysterious, but not really innovative because there are too many movies similar to this one. The storyline was well-written and well-explained, even though it was very simple and easy to understand. The characters were interesting, but they weren't well-developed and most of them were dislikable (especially, the bad guys). I have to admit, it was a very intense movie, action-filled and there were too many breathtaking scenes. The kill count of the movie was kinda bloody and brutal, even though most death scenes were done off-screen. The opening scene was promising and I really liked it. The 2nd act was adventurous, full of death scenes and I enjoyed it. The ending scene was definitely predictable and it was nice. Overall, "The Ledge" was an enjoyable survival thriller film, kinda shocking and I would definitely recommend it to my friends!

Don't Waste Your Time!
jen0801872 March 2022
Too many unanswered questions, unrealistic in every way! Where are they? What accent do they have? What happened in the past that they keep bringing up?? Why does the mountain scenery continue to change from every point of view?

Save yourself and don't sit on the "ledge" of your seat for this one!

No cliffhangers here!

This is the type of movie you find at the gas station, complete trash. The actor that plays the main antagonist Jesus Christ that dude is terrible. I thought he was bad at the Christmas prince but his performance here is laughable, and his friends are just as bad, my god what a bunch of wimps. The Actress that plays Kelly puts on a decent performance only because she rarely talks in the film and the flashback with her dead boyfriend was cringe, Boyfriend sounding like a sensei from a karate movie "use your mind not your muscles" give me a break! This movie is terrible.

Simple plot but it makes quite a fine film.
XueHuaBingYu13 February 2022
"The Ledge" is something that I didn't expect I would see. Basically, I don't like to see films about mountain climbing, space exploration and robotics. I always feel like those films are boring. But this "The Ledge" films quite makes a fine film and didn't make me feel boring. I watched the whole thing even I was kind of feeling sleepy and it didn't make me fell asleep. So, I'd say it's not that bad.

As for the film, the plot is quite simple, but the director quite managed to make it not to seem boring. That being said, I still feel like the dialogues are a bit weird. But it's still okay.

All in all, although the plot is quite simple, but it was kind enjoyable. Even though this film wouldn't make one of the best you watched, I think at least, it can make you quite enjoyable for first watch.

P. S. The plot written on IMDb is quite wrong, I think. She didn't fight with four climbers. She only fought with one big guy.

Predictable, but watchable
r-garton-91318 July 2022
As with most low budget films, the more you can shoot outdoors on location, the more money you can save. This film incorporates young talent, action, and fixed exteriors but it keeps a good flow going. The producers knew going in this woyld be a straight to streaming video but they should recoup their investment.

So bad... it's alrightttt.
EversonMovies5 June 2022
It's not quite "so bad it's.good" but so bad it's alright. You have to see the film for what it has to work with, small budget, newer actors and limited editing resources (you would assume). Bearing that in mind they have done pretty well with what they had, some acting is abit cheesy at times. But they keep it at a fair 1h 30m. You mentally judge this becuase your used to seeing blockbuster level work, but factor in "you got to start somewhere" it's an ok watchable film.

It's Kinda Fun Despite Being Kinda Bad
koltonbrett26 July 2022
This is one of those "so bad it's good" movies. You really can't take it seriously. Yet, I found it undeniably entertaining. Just turn off your brain and dive in. The dialogue is absolutely awful. It had me literally cringing. Ben Lamb, probably best known as the charming and lovable prince from Netflix's A Christmas Prince trilogy, plays the exact opposite of that character in this film. Truth be told, he doesn't do bad very good. He's way over the top as a sadistic sleezeball. Every time he opens his mouth, the most unbelievably bad dialogue comes spewing out. His awful performance is nonetheless attention grabbing. Nothing any of these characters do makes any sense. It's laughable how dumb everyone is. Forget realism. The action is over the top but still somehow exciting. This is one of the only obviously bad movies I've ever enjoyed.

Bad bad bad bad bad
novams71-126 September 2022
Bad script, even worse acting - the lead bad guy who played head douche Josh was horrible! The whole cast and movie itself was like watching a mediocre college film studies project. The plot was thin and boring overall. I felt no connection to the protagonist and I found it unbelievable that Josh's friends went along with his nastiness. It was fill off or dated movie tropes and nothing interesting to hold the viewers attention. What a waste of time! If you want to see a brilliant revenge thriller then check out the movie Revenge. That has a better script and better actors. Very disappointing movie.

He's one twisted Evil guy!
destiny_west3 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this thriller. Ben Lamb portrays the psycho Joshua perfectly. This character is truly evil and twisted and will let no one stand in his way, not even his so called best mates.

Had a kind of Backcountry tone to it, minus the bear.

Definitely worth the watch, very edge of your seat kind of film, and you wait with baited breathe for Joshua to get karma flung back at him full throttle.

I really enjoyed this film, and would recommend it to anyone.

An okay 'Girl vs Dangerous Blokes on a Mountain' film
Tweekums18 February 2024
Californian friends Kelly and Sophie have gone to Italy where they hope to undertake a challenging climb in the Dolomites. The day before they plan to set off another for Americans arrive; four men who have known each other since childhood. The girls join them for a drink around the campfire. The girls aren't too impressed when the men say they are planning to tale a tourist trail to the top. Sometime after Kelly returns to their cabin, Josh, the apparent leader of the friends tries it on with Sophie... when she rebuffs him he attempts to rape her. Events lead to her being seriously injured; Josh murders her rather than let her tell what happened. He ropes in his friends to incriminate them... only then do the realise that not only did Kelly witness the murder; she filmed it. The chase her but she gets away and sets off up the cliff. They can't catch her on the rock face but they can get above her. Naturally things are going to get unpleasant for all involved as she is trapped on a narrow ledge several feet below them.

I thought this film was okay. The central plot is pretty simple but effective in that quickly sets things up so we can get to the action. It is hinted at very early on that Josh has done something dubious in the past so his behaviour towards Sophie isn't a real surprise. As things progress and we learn more about him it becomes clear that he is psychotic... one wonders why his friends didn't abandon him years before. I was a little disappointed that the actual climb was over so quickly; although to be fair it is called 'The Ledge' not 'The Climb'. When deaths occur they are fairly brutal and most didn't play out in the manner I'd expected. I could have done without the flashback to Kelly and her climbing mentor; they were a bit cheesy and took us out of the real action. The cast were decent enough for a low budget film. The effects are somewhat mixed; the initial part of the climb was solid enough but once on the ledge I never thought Kelly was really hundreds of feet up the side of a mountain. The blurb described it as 'Cliffhanger' meets 'Revenge'; that might get a few more people to watch but they'll quickly start thinking they'd have been better off watching one of those films as they are both far superior. Overall I'd certainly not call this a must see but if you like the genre and have ninety minutes to kill it passes the time well enough.

I want to like it but... it's pretty terrible
rhyss-530113 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As an indie film with unknown actors I want to be fair. Yes of course this isn't go to have the big budget so the bad CGI can be glaringly obvious at times, but I do feel that all could have been forgiven with a good script - which certainly was not the case here.

The acting is fairly mediocre but I do think that is in large part to the awful script. The friend Zach who *SPOILER* gets stabbed in the leg halfway through is probably the only believable actor. The rest I'm sure do their best with this poor script but it feels very forced and unnatural.

The villain, Josh, is just an awful character. Do these truly evil people really exist? Where their mates are good deep down but don't know how to stand up to him? If so the world is a poor place. I also didn't believe someone who was so horrible and treated women so poorly (he didn't try and hide it from Kelly and Sophie) would be able to have an affair with his mates partner for years. What in the world was she attracted to?!

In a word, disappointing.

Unbearably awful thriller, mediocre comedy
jacenorton-6239513 April 2022
This movie was the worst thriller/suspense movie I have ever seen in my 30 years of life. 0.78% of this movie's plot made sense. The ONLY reason to watch would be if you are a group of climbers (like me and my friends who WASTED $7.99 to rent this atrocity) watching an extremely cringy movie just to make fun of it. But still would not recommend.

Pretty solid low-budget survival thriller
whackcar5 February 2022
I don't get the 5/10 overall rating it has. It's definitely better than that. Aside from some pacing issues & bad language, i don't think there's much wrong with this movie. The ending felt rushed though. Definitely very watchable if you like this kind of movie.
