Unpleasant, to Say the Least
kschles-6790518 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So none of the major characters are sympathetic. Frankly, they are all jerks, bullies, and violent thugs. How are we supposed to feel about them? I didn't really care. The main kid, Leighton (who also wrote the script and directed) seemed to straighten up near the end of the movie. He blamed his abhorrent behavior on his friends...who ended up in prison, aimless, or dead. I don't understand the point of it all.

Not what I expected.

This movie didn't grab me until about 20 minutes in but once it does......I couldn't stop watching it ans was sad it was over. Camera work is good and the more main actors do a really good job at telling the story throughout. You will laugh, you may cry, you will be intrigued, and you will find yourself immersed in the characters and show them empathy. Overall, it works. For what Brandon was trying to accomplish, he does that and does it well.

Wow

One of the worst things I've seen in a long time. Terrible dialogue made even worse by the awful acting. It felt like a high school film project (that barely met the requirements).

Outside looking in?

B class movie with promise.

Tales of an American Hoodrat is for anyone who grew up in lower-middle-class housing, a trailer park, subsidised housing or the projects if you were ever a teenager whose parents did not understand you or was too busy caught up in their own lives to pay attention to yours. I was all of these teenagers at some point, as are most during that time in your life when you are on the inside but still feeling like you're on the outside looking in. Brandon Lutzman wrote the screenplay an edited and directed which shows promise especially from someone his age, I look forward to future scripts with Brandon at the helm.

Should be called 'Tales of Suburban Privilidge'
thory-110 December 2021
The acting was poor at best. The story seemed like it was thought up by a group mixed of DARE and church propagandists. I didn't hate watching this but I also couldn't wait for it to end. Oddly enough even the ending disappointed because of how forced/fake it was. This movie tries to paint some picture of adolescent growth but it just hits down on all the overplayed stereotypes in extreme manners.

I would never watch this movie again but I was slightly entertained and humored at times. I think that warrants at least 3 stars.

Definitely a Film Parents, Teens, & Adolescents should see

The writer does a great job combining comedy & drama in this film. I believe everyone will be able relate to it in one way or another. While there may be some swearing in the film, it gives the viewer the raw look of the reality teens and adolescents go through nowadays and how they may or may not deal with the challenges they encounter growing up such as peer pressure, bullying, abuse, drug use, single parent household, defiance toward parents and acting out, as well as the different personas they portray infront of their friends opposed to their parents and/or friends parents. It opened my eyes to the fact that many individuals will have no clue what their child is doing or turn a blind eye to the issues they face until there's an aftermath of consequences to deal with rather than simply spend time & talk with them and help them through the issue they are dealing with. Must See!

Barely redeemable

Amateurish script, bad acting, obnoxious characters, I only watched it 'til the end to see if they were held accountable for being such awful teenagers. I like coming-of-age movies but this one just didn't come close to being insightful or edgy. It taught me nothing. Oh, it wasn't even funny!
