A genial music video

The irony of its imagery and settings really makes of "Holiday Road" one of the finest music videos of its era, the golden era for such projects in the 1980's. That famous theme song from the Chevy Chase/Beverly D'Angelo/Randy Quaid "Vacation" movies which truly revolves about the sentiment of families gathering during holidays you won't be seeing in the video, it's a complete u-turn that goes in slightly funny ways and most of the time it's depressive and real as hell.

Our hero (and singer) Lindsey Buckingham faces an exhausting and endless day at work answering phones, seated at his desk and the only breaks he's allowed it's to get some water as the heat seems to invade the place and tires his voice. Throw to that elements such as the scary boss, planted all-high up above him and that the office doesn't have any windows to it and we only see Lindsey and the girls working and working all the time with no escape from it. Where's the holiday at? Well, it's a long way down to Holiday Road (guess those oh-oh-oh-oh screams reflect the whole pain to finally get there).

The concept is genius, almost like an "1984" bureacratic kind of world, the song is amazingly catchy and fun to hear and while the video might not look so fun to see it, but it is. Those close-up shots of Lindsay singing and nodding his head, or his trying to loose his tie and him and the table keeps moving across the room in a frantic manner, and those lots of water falling down, I don't know but it makes me laugh whenever I see it, and also because I remember the "Vacation" film franchise as well, lots of fun and they always had this as a theme song. 10/10.
