I'm not sure why the first episode is rated so low, but after watching the first 3 episodes on Hulu, this show is off to a strong start. Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt offer a nice contrast of characters, each funny in their own way, and the supporting characters all have good potential. I'm interested to see where they take the show, but so far it's enjoyable.

Funny pilot - ignore the bad ratings

The trailer wasn't that good, I admit, and the ratings on IMDb for the pilot are, as of now, poor, but the show is really funny. I'm a huge Sunny fan and I was sceptical about this show at first. I gave it a try and I did not regret it.
As a pilot, it's amazing. It gets you laughing immediately - compare that with Sunny, which takes a few episodes (or seasons, even) to get going.
If you're expecting more IASIP, this may not be the show for you, but if you want a real comedy, this is it right here. No laugh tracks, no drama, just comedy.
Give it a chance. You won't regret it.

Most of the bad reviews I've seen talk about how this is disrespectful to teachers/students/education/etc... As a teacher, I find the absurdity of this show hilarious. He may not be teaching AP Bio (he's definitely not teaching AP Bio), but to say the main character isn't redeemable isn't very true either. He helps the kid being bullied and he helps the kid new to the school (who was doing the bullying).

Wow this episode is so underrated like there's no tomorrow.
If they keep this up this is gonna be a really funny and amazing show. It is so easy to get into the story and it's hard not to love this show. So do yourself a favour and ignore all the negative rating the show has gotten and watch it and decide for yourself.
