Brendon Hartley violated a yellow zone that was imposed after the #41 Greaves-Gibson LMP2 car stopped on the track at 20:07 with a dead battery. Brendon wasn't helped by the fact that the warning light in his cockpit, which indicates when there is a slow zone, had just broken.
Darren Cox told the media that the #22 Nissan had been forced into the garage after being "hit by a UFO." The official report later suggested it was a small animal or piece of debris that hit the car.
Nissan was facing a host of problems at this point in the race. Namely, their cars were running without any electric power due to a disconnected rear drive hybrid system. This left them with a mere 550hp from the combustion engines - a shadow of the power wielded by front-runners Porsche and Audi.
On top of their lack of electric power, Nissan faced recurring problems with their clutch, overheating brakes, locking gears and electronics that, on more than one occasion, required a "ctrl-alt-delete" style reboot.
In spite of their problems during the race, Rebellion claimed the second fastest speed in qualifying with driver Dominik Kraihamer clocking in at 339.1 km/h.
