To create the film, Kip Oebanda used many resources by interviewing people who work in the Supreme Court, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, current and former law students and professors, as well as relatives.
The late Miriam Defensor Santiago initially accepted the role of Justice Hernandez but later declined it or dropped out due to production being in conflict with the 2016 election campaign period. In accordance with COMELEC rules along with administrative and election laws, political candidates are strictly not allowed to appear in any non-news or non-informative program such as films and television series during the campaign period as such actions would be considered advertising time or advertisements.
The role of Justice Hernandez was originally offered to the late Miriam Defensor Santiago, a former regional trial court judge and senator of the Philippines who also served as the Pilippine Agrarian Reform Secretary, Chairwoman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and International Criminal Court Judge. Had Santiago accepted the role, this would be her film debut.
The film's school scenes were shot on location at the main campus of San Beda College, which is located near Mendiola Street in the San Miguel district of the City of Manila. Production used most of the classrooms, the library, auditorium, corridors, and the law school dean's office. San Beda College was later granted university status in 2018.
The game being played the the main protagonists in an internet cafe is either Defense of the Ancients or its sequel, DotA 2, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. The game, known by its abbreviation, DotA, is a favorite of many Filipinos.
