The trouble with a slow burn series is that it needs to maintain your interest. Sometimes the dynamic between the characters can compensate for the glacial pace. McMafia suffers because the pace is leaden and some of the interesting characters are not fleshed out. It leads to James Norton to carry the show all on his own but he is still a little bit of a fish out of water to this mafia lark.

After how Vadim took down Kleiman so easily in the previous episode. Alex would had realised that his security needs beefing up and he needs to be ruthless as hell. After all he has come faceto face with his enemy.

Vadim knows the best way to get your adversary is through their families. He is an homicidal maniac who destroys families. Vadim gets to Alex via Benes drug addicted daughter. At a meeting in a restaurant Benes lets slip that Alex's partner Rebecca might be in danger from Vadim's gang.

The set up at the climax of the episode was well done but you jut feel that the whole series should had been wrapped up by now.

Oh the drudgery!

The episodes have become less and less interesting and Semiyon's drawn out speech pattern becomes more and more annoying. It didn't help that there was a lot of the dialogue in Russian making reading the subtitles an unrewarding nuisance.
