Olga Zhyla had never done acting prior to this film other than Year 9 drama.
In order to direct the Ukrainian language scenes, Bina Bhattacharya went to great lengths to cast native Ukrainian speakers and had a dedicated Ukrainian-language co-director on set to ensure authenticity.
