Propaganda hogwash

If your mother locks you in basement and makes you do 100 rosaries every time you look at someone of the opposite sex - boy is this the movie for you! The story is weak, the script is weaker and the acting is a reflection of both. I saw other reviews described this film as 'wholesome' which I guess is a word you could use but I would say it blurs the lines between cringeworthy and propaganda/brainwashing. Would give it zero stars if I could! I do not recommend.

So bad overall

Warning: Spoilers
The story could have been covered correctly with actors who can act. Additionally, the amount of prayers throughout was like drinking a gallon of honey sweetened with sugar and maple syrup. Nobody explained why the pantyhose went missing from one of the victims. It was really very bad overall,
Terrible movie

This movie is like a car crash you can't look away from. There is no sense of Beginning, no climax and the ending is just 🤦. It's a movie based on true events in a murder in 1971 but get updated so it is in present day, but poorly. The characters have cell phones but don't use them in key scenes but use landlines for plot reasons. The movie hangs on to scenes too long. People crying at a house for a solid minute, to move into their car driving while crying, on and on. I get they want to address the stress and emotions of the characters, but that amount of scenes isn't needed if it's written or acted well, it's just filler to make the movie longer. Perfect example of this is the people from NY, walking from the airport answer their phone, hear that they are not needed so they huff and turn around and go back, and scene...why 🤷?? That scene was pointless! Nothing is gained.
But really they just made this movie for them to say how good Christian people should act though everything, they smash you over the head with their ideology, their message as heavy handed as they can. Everything else in this movie is to just get to those moments. If that is what you need, what you are looking for, that's fine, but that does not make it a good film.

Of course there are going to be negative reviews. I try to go more with the storyline than the acting. If general acting is the case, daytime soaps would have been written off as soon as they started!! Gulp.
With all the destruction, wars, murders etc. in the real world we need to focus more on positive elements. As soon as something comes in as Bible-related and brings joy and positivity to the soul it's rated as negative by those in the unbelieving population. Sadly they are jealous - I feel sorry for them....

When senseless murder invades a community of love & faith
Wuchakk5 July 2021
After a pastor (Frank Chiesurin) takes a job at an affluent assembly in the Puget Sound area, his family & congregants are rocked by homicide. Who did it? And, just as important, can they overcome the outbreak of fear? Rachel MacMillan plays the wife and Erin T. Allen the Sheriff.
Based on a true story, "A Murder of Innocence" (2018) is a crime drama with an obvious faith-based element since it involves a pastor's family and their new assembly. While clueless critics write off the biblical element as "propaganda," I found the honest communions revolving around God and faith refreshing and convincing. The movie tackles the age-old conundrum of bad things happening to good people. How do survivors overcome the invasion of evil and the tragedies thereof?
The filmmaking is on the level of a quality TV movie and I enjoyed it for what it is, a real-life crime drama involving mostly disciples of Christ. I appreciated the reverent ambiance and the honesty about how churches have to deal with things like jealousies and paranoid suspicions even while sincerely subscribing to a standard of love, which includes tough love. Really, the only flaw is that the story drags; the pace could've and should've been tightened up by about 10-15 minutes.
The protagonist, by the way, has the Clark Kent vibe down to a 'T.'
The film runs 1 hour, 43 minutes.

Not to everyone's taste

I note one reviewer criticised those that gave this film a low rating. Well, here is another, it's almost a religious propaganda film. It is far too lovey-dovey and over sentimental coupled to a religious theme. Not everyone is religious or needs to rely on the community for a psychological crutch. No comment on the standard of acting and the story line is run of the mill routine
Yawn

This film is so slow it will have you yawning inside 15 minutes. Incredibly the majority of this film is the pastor and his wife comforting one another and affirming themselves that God will see them through. The near absence of a storyline or certainly a story that could have been told inside 15 minutes has been combined with acting so wooden that are being generous in giving it 2 out of 10. The protagonist family are portrayed as almost in possibly wet - something that detracts from the credibility. With so many good books that never make the transition to film, I'm bemused as to why someone thought this unremarkable story was worth retelling. Frankly, I wish I'd read the reviews here before I wasted my time with this.
Give it a chance

Good Message in the Movie

Warning: Spoilers
Some of the acting was subpar, but looking passed that, the Christian perspective and content was excellent. Best acting was by the Sheriff, the crazy woman, and her husband. The leads were ok, but the actress portraying The pastor wife was a bit better than the actor playing the pastor. But I'm all, I appreciate the time and effort everyone out in to make this Christian film. We need more of these.
I found it moving. Obviously not for everyone.

The movie shows what happens when fear grips and overwhelms a group of people. Irrational thinking and behavior and mental deterioration ensue.
Pastor Anderson and his wife were struggling with the same fear. The inevitable question why do bad things happen to good people arises. The Andersons had their faith tested. They took reasonable precautions for their own safety, and learned to hand their fear over to God.
I think the movie contains a pertinent lesson in a day and age when the media and governments around the world work non-stop to keep the masses whipped up into a hysterical frenzy, fighting each other.
