Less Soap Opera More Character Unveiling
GunnersMate15 April 2018
While the first episode was heavy-loaded with backstory, this second installment spends more time looking at who our characters are here and now and how this is reflected in how they are responding to their current crisis. The soap opera feel has been minimized with the survival story taking front and center - which is a good thing. This is a solid outing, which leaves us wanting more as we anticipate seeing all of our known characters of the past (while now different in appearances and motivations but retaining the same basic character cores) finally come together.

Oreo's... really?
sab-9992514 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I understand that product placement is a necessary evil in movies and tv to offset high production costs.... but really? The scenes where Oreos took center stage were distracting and annoying. One can only hope that this doesn't become an ongoing occurrence in this series.

With that said, this remake seems to be overall pretty good. The original series was great, and this reboot with its modern take on gender roles and family dynamics is refreshing.

The verdict is out on Parker Posey as Dr. Smith though... Jonathon Harris was amazing as Dr. Smith in the original series. She has some big shoes to fill.

Diamond in the rough ?

Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of "Lost In Space" is fortunately, a big improvement over the pilot.

Although I think they will return, as there is back story that still need explaining, flashbacks to the families life before the accident are gone this week instead replaced by two narratives. The Robinson's begin to explore their new home, specifically looking for the Robot/Alien's ship and "Doctor Smith" and Don recover from their crash landing and start to look for survivors.

Despite a bit more questionable science; the rocks will cut your shoes to shreds but the chicken walks fine on them - the distance between the Jungle and the Tundra seemingly has not gradual crossover between the two, this episode was an step up. It's much funnier, for one. Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) adds a lot of this, as do Penny and Judy - trapped back at the spaceship whilst the rest of the family explore. There was also a little more intrigue to this one too, as Will learns that the Robot/Alien appears to be responsible for the crash that brought them here but chooses to keep the information to himself and we also see the first instances of "Dr Smith's" villainous side - although it's perhaps still more self-preservation at all costs, at the moment, rather than pure evil.

The show still seems a little Sci-Fi Lite and family friendly for my taste, but I'll definitely to see if this rate of improvement can be kept up.

Shameless product placement...

...misandry continues, Dr Smith is *not* Dr Smith, plot holes everywhere, the robot is now a guy in a costume...the only carryover from the original series! lol

All the failure movies and series recently coming out of Hollywood that are all disliked for identical reasons (listed numerous times by reviews on the LIS home page here at IMDb), yet they spitefully continue to ram it down our throats. Nothing like alienating more than half the audience, eh? What's that definition of "insanity" again? ...

Spectacular and different of anything from the past (or present)
chul_soon24 July 2018
I enjoy this series very much ,i like the effects and the action is great , the acting is outstanding too .This series remembers me very much of Star Trek Deep Space Nine ,one of the best sci-fi series ever made. This seies brings back the pleasure i had watching series like DS-9,Andromeda,NuBSG,Space above and beyond .I hope this series will have a long and prospere existence because this is the best sci-fi show from 2017-2018.I would advice the new Star Trek Discovery producers to watch this series if they want to learn how a great space based is being made, because they don't have a clue.

Enjoyable with high production value and a forced feminist agenda
jasony14516 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a solid TV show with high production value so far. It has a movie feel to it also with progressive agenda we are all to familiar with these days. My critique of this show comes from the blatant, even force misandry. Don't get me wrong, I am all on board with girl power. But do all the men have to be flawed and all the women be strong. brilliant and fearless? Really? The mother is a brilliant scientist who has raised 3 kids by two fathers all by herself. And she has also has mastered astrophysics, engineering, and interstellar spacecraft repair. Her eldest daughter is a teen-age physician and the younger daughter is witty, well adjusted and all around capable. The pseudo-villain has been co-opted from a male role to a female. It's nice to have a female villain for a change but I am waiting to find in her backstory where some man (likely her father) led her to being such a crappy person. No don't she is suppressing her homosexuality.

The men on the other had are all flawed. Father abandoned them and is now back. He can't do much technically, but is trying to make up for leaving them to join military service. The younger son is equally inadequate as they had to cheat to get him in the space program. The other male character from the original story is just in it for the money, so he will also have to be redeemed.

The best pilot in the group is also female After establishing this in episode 8 when they need the best. Once we know the best is a woman they decide to strip the ship down to minimal weight and pilot it remotely so the idiot father can be the monkey that goes up instead.

It's too bad they had to force all this on the viewer, this is a good story otherwise. It's just ridiculous how agendas can highjack the creative process. It's like they are afraid their production is going to be a failure, so they put a political agenda like feminism in there to feel good about themselves. At least they did it from the very beginning instead of hooking you in and then springing the agenda like a lot of TV productions do.

this is a family series, we'll see where the stories go
heidiathomson6 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, I enjoyed this episode. There is a lot of action and varying geography. We get to see more of the planet and more time is spent with the characters.

  • dialogue is light and a bit on the young side, making this a family show
  • the humour is also for a younger audience
  • character development is there (I don't like the "doctor"! At this point not a good person)
  • the planet is interesting: metal dropping storms, mountain peaks, forest, desert, and caves - all with different parts of the story or characters
  • with all the characters dispersed and yet to be found, I thought of the show Lost
  • the music and energy reminds me of Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • the younger characters seemed smarter in the previous episode
  • the teenage impatience and recklessness is so far paying off.

45mins ads for cookies...
Malloy-200018 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Really...anyone in the production team thought this would be "not obvious"?

I'm just so in love with the sci-fi genre that I can watch pretty much anytying rate 2 stars and up...but one thing I can't stand is a 45mins advertisement product placement.

Even when the lead characters cheers and get embrasse the only thing they can say is don't crush the cookies....(I won't say the brand I would be doing them a favor which is not the reason for this review)

So...great job from the marketing cookie team...poor job from the producer and network for letting this go by.

Space Schlock

Warning: Spoilers
I have only been able to watch two episodes of this very disappointing show. Every turn has the characters doing inexplicable things and the "science" is so far-fetched that even suspending your disbelief is nearly impossible to do.

SPOILERS AHEAD

  • Having it cold enough to freeze a lake solid would be enough to seriously harm humans out in the frigid temperatures - and without covering their skin - seriously?
  • Time is a serious issue here - the distances and time it would take to travel them are completely unrealistic and make me scratch my head.
  • The characters are all unlikable. So far in the two episodes I have watched, there are no redeeming qualities to any of the characters.
  • Why were the Robot's first words "Danger Will Robinson"? That made no sense to me at all. Just to hearken back to nostalgiaville. Ridiculous.
  • If the J2 was underwater, none of the exterior windows showed the underwater scene.
  • The drama with Smith and West was distracting and flat.
  • Why do they still have wired hand held microphones for the communication system?
  • Why did the girl who didn't have her licence for the chariot go on her own?
  • Why do the characters continue to make unbelievable decisions that put their safety in jeopardy?
  • People have already commented on the OREO product placement, but it's still a bothersome point.

UGH. I'm giving up. Some people may claim that it gets better as the season goes on, but I'm not wasting anymore of my time.

I'm out.

Can tolerate a lot but not this.
rodzphotos28 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If I didn't like sci-fi so much I'd say cancel this one, quick.

I've gotten through the first season even with the advertising and the science being way off only to be more disappointed by the second coming. I guess I'm such a big fan of the original that I wanted this one to work.

Not withstanding plot issues, some of the characters have really let me down. Most notably the Don character with the unbelievably annoying attempts at humor. Wouldn't he be better serving as a brooding somewhat antisocial mechanic that becomes more interested in the family as time goes on? Then maybe getting interested in the eldest daughter? It was convincing in the movie. But even if it were that, there is no explanation as to why her character ended up being black. Adopted maybe??. Back story hiccup? I'm all for diversity but casting And writing could have done much much better in more than a few instances. He's not funny and reminds me of the guy that annoys everyone by trying and failing miserably at being funny and hip. Yes, we all know at least one.

It seems like the writers are running out of ideas and it's just the second season. I'd go on to some of the others but really people?

This is my first review ever but this is so bad I had to say something.

NEW SPACE OREOS! BUY THEM NOW!
cybersontaran1 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode starts of with cringey, unoriginal chicken comedy. Seriously, why do this? There wasn't a drop of comedy in the first episode, so why is it suddenly all over the place?

ALSO, BUY OREOS! BUY THEM NOW!

Yeah the product placement in this episode is shoved in your face and it put me off every time I saw that pack of Oreos.

Otherwise the plot continues well with the other two characters that where introduced to (the guy that pretends to be heartless and the woman that actually is heartless). The robinsons don't really get anywhere. They just go exploring and then hurriedly go back to the ship. Literally, the only thing they did was dry their ship and get it half out of the ice. This means that you could almost skip this whole episode.

I did like that sequence with the robot and the kid remembering the other humans being murdered.

Overrall besides the chicken and the Oreos... Meh it was alright.
