Getting better
It looks like they are now going with stand alone episodes instead of some super silly on going plot/theme. And as a result the episodes so far (in this season) are getting better. There still seems to be a lingering romance between Alex and Ryan, but hopefully it won't be exploited and ruin what appears to be a forward momentum in the show.

Hell's Gate

This is a good example of the new stand alone Quantico. No need to tie itself up in knots over its various arcs but they can still maintain some of their soap opera histrionics.

The black ops team take over from the US Marshals to protect an ex-CIA Agent Charlie who went deep cover into a Mexican cartel to take down its kingpin Culebra. A man so ruthless he killed his own sister because he did not like her boyfriend.

The US Marshals have a mole, a previous witness was killed. Charlie is the only hope but immediately the cartel's men are on to him.

A rather exciting adventure with some nice character moments. Even some humour as Ryan needs to go undercover in a gay club. However there was an obvious flaw as to one of the US Marshals was so obviously in league with the cartel.

predictable, unrealistic, soap

Warning: Spoilers
From the very beginning, Quantico has been a soap in the guise of a B-thriller. The soft love triangles, the prancing and bulging, the macho and slinky moves are all soapy stuff. This episode tries to go into more thriller territory, but the shoot outs, the staged conflicts are just not realistic. No law enforcement agencies would engage in a full blown shoot out surrounded by civilians. There are just too many scenarios like this. The dialogue is also soapy with every event hanging on some emotional life changing experience. Come on, real law enforcement personnel are far more detached, professional and focused. This is just a soap with an ethnically diverse cast.
