A fitting, even if perfect, finale
I won't deny - I have mixed feelings about this show ending after three seasons. I had hoped for at least one or two more. However, the ending is fitting even if it isn't perfect. It has some fine acting from Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta. Hopefully the Emmys will at least give them both a nomination. I feel their performances have been top-notch throughout the duration of this show, and they keep getting overlooked.
Without spoiling, the bulk of the episode centers around Harlee going in front of the police commission to expose Ramsey's corruption. The tension is palpable as we wait to see if her witness is going to show, or if she's going to finally have to come clean of her choices. Ramsey is a lothable character, which makes it all the more nail biting. The courtroom focus works very well and keeps you guessing how it all will turn out.
I had mixed feelings about the last 10 minutes of the episode, which wraps things up with a (somewhat) neat bow and gives the show a fairy fitting end. A final choice by Woz in a scene with him and Ramsey seems a bit of a stretch and kind of negates where the story goes regarding Harlee's decision.
In the end the writers opted for a morality tale with a clear cut ending that is satisfying simply for the reason that it doesn't "just end." However, you can't help but think about the other characters in the show and see a bit of imbalance and unfairness when comparing the conclusion of their stories versus the outcome of Harlee's story. This takes away some of the satisfaction regarding the ending and leaves us feeling a bit let down.
All in all, it's a decent conclusion. Is it perfect? No. But when you think about where the story began, and remember shows that have ended on a huge letdown ("Dexter," "The Glades," or "The Following," anybody?), we can be grateful for a generally solid wrap-up.
