Elementary Resurrected
futuretype19 March 2018
The situation is similar to "Elementary" but brisquer with less rapport. Dr Dylan Reinhart (Alan Cummings) takes on the Sherlock role (without the mumbling) and Detective Lizzie Needham (Bojana Novakovic) fills in for Watson but there is a slight role reverasal with the Detective tending to be in charge. They follow a crime spree where cards are used as clues that require psychological insights. There is less involvement of other characters (no Adian Quinn role to report to but there is a female mayor) making the action move faster.

A decent start.
Sleepin_Dragon4 November 2018
The story was a little run of the mill, the format has been done several times, yet this was a decent watch, and that was totally and utterly down to Alan Cumming, his on screen presence and charisma.

I had expected it to be the first part of an ongoing series, but this is a stand alone episode that reaches its conclusion.

It's decent, but I wonder without Cumming would I have enjoyed as much. 7/10

[6.4] X and Y
cjonesas26 June 2021
Comedy, drama? Not sure yet. It has too much talking and funny situation to be taken seriously. They wrapped it up on the first episode. Each episode would be self-contained?!

If it continues like that, its rating would surely drop from my part and I wouldn't be surprised at all why it has been cancelled. It already looks like something that will run out of steam very fast and go repetitive. Guess time will show as I explore further.

So far, the chemistry between X and Y is the only interesting factor.

Why cancel a great show?
lynnegemini25 September 2019
I just love this show. The dialogue is intelligent; the story lines are interesting; the characters have great rapport; and the acting is brilliant. Yet, I hear the show has been cancelled. What is the matter with people? Trite rubbish (like the Kardashians) finds an audience and those of us with a brain are left with slim pickings.

Will Need Some Work

I'm a big Alan Cumming fan. So I will give this a couple more shots. Here he plays a gay nonfiction crime writer. He is also a college professor, teaching psychology courses in aberrant behavior. In this episode we are introduced to a pretty young female cop who has had her own issues (surprise, surprise). Anyway, the sparks fly at first, but there is an excess of tongue in cheek. I'm hoping that now that we have seen the participants, there will be some halfway decent writing.

Instinct for Exposition
joshuahines12 May 2022
Yikes, the dialogue is one long explanation about why everyone does anything. The only time motives aren't being clearly told, people are explaining their jobs to people who know what their jobs are, or explaining someone's background to them. Even the killer is nice enough to explain why he is killing. It follows that age old rule of good stories- tell, don't show. It's great if you want a formula consult police procedure that leaves nothing to the imagination.

Awful. Simply awful. (Pilot)
jefferymcbride20 March 2018
A huge fan of cop partnership shows. Elementary. The Mentalist. Midsomer Murders. Lethal Weapon. MacGyver. Yes, I even love the cheese. But there simply is no chemistry here. The writing is sub-par. Alan Cummings attempting an American accent is awful (why not play British)? I'll give it a couple more episodes. So disappointed because I so want to love it.

Another police consulting job
MiketheWhistle20 March 2018
This falls in the genre category of another police consulting show, and just doesn't have the chemistry. The leading characters don't have the connection the numerous shows like this have. The doctor portraying an ex-CIA officer lacks credibility based upon his idiosyncrasies and general demeanor. The NYPD detective is too minimized and seems to be painting the numbers of her character.Beyond that it could be a great show.

I hope it gets better

I like the premise of this show but something is definitely missing. It fell flat. I felt it was neither good nor bad so I am going to give it a few more episodes to see if I stick with it. I felt the worst part, and most annoying, was the character of the detective. It felt as though we were watching a high school drama student play a detective. It was not at all believable. It was most annoying when she was speaking to the mayor and she was a talking bobble head. I like Alan Cummings and I think his character has promise. I hope they add a bit more life, more of Alan Cummings' himself. He's so colourful and vibrant that I want it to come across more.
