The pilot for this series gave us a lot to look forward to. We are provided with complicated relationships and motivations of existence right from the start. We learn a very little about the mysterious "Tidelanders" and a business relationship generations deep with a coastal town. The characters are complex and compelling with multiple storylines to drive this series suspensefully to the next episode.

A fisherman is murdered on a ship. A young women gets out of prison and visits her brother and a lawyer to discover her father left her a $200K inheritance which her mother used to buy a bar, mother and daughter argue about the inheritance and the daughters delinquent behavior. Some Burning Man rejects assemble on a beach. If you are wondering what any of this has to do with human/siren hybrids, I dare you to watch the episode twice and try to tell me. Adding a supernatural element to your bad nighttime family soap drama rarely works...but works even less if no viewers can tell there there even ARE supernatural elements. Ugh, this first episode is frustrating on many levels, though the performances aren't bad. The writing is okay, but just meandering and directionless. Is this Animal Kingdom or True Blood? Neither so far.
