Seriously overlooked!
ronakkotian27 July 2021
Dibakar Banerjee is a director I admire a lot. He's made Bollywood films that are out of the ordinary and it's sad that he doesn't get enough appreciation for his work. His latest, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is a prime example of that.

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar follows Sandeep, a successful banker, and Pinky, a suspended cop, as they abscond after being marked for a kill.

I was excited for this film for many years but the constant delays and lack of updates got me worried. It seemed like YRF completely forgot about this film and released it during the worst possible time with little to no promotion. I also remember the onslaught of hatred towards the film just because of the two lead actors. However, this is a film I think people should give a chance and hopefully it gains more popularity in due time.

From the opening scene alone, Dibakar Banerjee shows his strengths as director with a beautifully executed one take sequence that lets us in on the film's themes and intrigues us with its lack of context. From then on, we get an interesting study into gender and in particular, masculinity. This is evidently show by the choice to switch the names Sandeep and Pinky with its opposing gender. We learn the mindset of several characters and what they believe men or women can do. Dibakar Banerjee and Varun Grover take us through certain stereotypes both genders have and how Sandeep and Pinky are an exception. Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor are two performers that haven't shown their true skills as actors but Banerjee brings out so much from both of them that they actually turn in their best performances possibly. This clearly shows how an actor can act to the best of their ability with the right director and script. Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta and Jaideep Ahlawat are also great in their roles. I do wish the pacing was faster since the film moves relatively slow.

It's unfortunate how poorly marketed Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar was. Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor put forth some of their best work here and Dibakar Banerjee conveys to us how talented of a director he is once again. Films like these need to be supported and I hope more people discover it and give it a watch.

By hating nepokids you don't support outsiders

Varun grover and Banerjee have come up with totally fresh story! The screenplay of the movie does not let you know everything at once. The way the story reveals itself , bit by bit ,holds the audience attention. As usual jaideep ahlawat, neena gupta, and raghubhir they never disappointment.

About arjun and parineeti, whenever they came on screen, I wished "don't ruin this pls"... And they didn't, surprisingly I think it's their best performance till date Overall it's a good watch.

Career Best Performances
IPyaarCinema2 November 2021
Review By Kamal K

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is a slow burner & grow on you with time! By the time film reached to climax, you are completely in awe of Dibakar Banerjee's world. It's totally unpredictable from start to finish. Yes! There are issues with pacing, and I felt like a lot was let unexplained or untied, but great performances specially by Raghuvir Yadav, as a typical conservative uncle with a liking for surgical strike makes it a worth watch. Also the inversion of gender dynamics works really well, and even though maybe they could have casted better actors I think both Arjun and Parineeti delivered their career best performances in this film. Thanks to Dibakar Banerjee for bringing out the actors in both of them. And BTW, the 'Faraar' track sung by Anu Malik is a Banger.

Overall, This Film is Definitely a good One-Time Watch.

Gritty, Nuanced, Well-Written Film
nairtejas5 July 2021
You know something is very wrong right from the brilliant opening montage of Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (Sandeep and Pinky On the Run), a story about two chance expendables running for their life. The brilliance lies in the writing here which gives you enough to stay invested and rooting for the characters, each of who are played by talented actors. It's a slow burn but it never crescendoes into what you would expect (adding to the fun), but Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor put up a show that can very well be termed a holy homecoming. Watch it.

If you see "nepokids" or "nepotism" in any of the reviews, do not read it
saswath-0523722 March 2021
Coming from a capable director like Dibakar Banerjee and an equally talented writer like Varun Grover, I had fairly high expectations from this film. Let me tell you that I was not disappointed at all. The story is fresh, the performances are grounded and real, the cinematography is brilliant. The only flaw that I could find was with the pacing. It could've been 15-20 minutes shorter. But that pales in comparison to the good aspects of the film. So, watch this film while its still in theatres because it deserves your time and money. If you're worried about the other reviews calling the two leads' performances underwhelming or expressionless, just know that they have been spoiled by years of watching stars overact on screen. This film is as real as it gets.

So much better than I thought it would be. I thought the performances wouldn't be that good but turns out that they are all good. Definitely worth a watch.

Well... there is nothing in the film. Why they made this film ? I don't understand.

Why ? What ? Who ? Where ? When ?

I have lots of question. But not getting any answer from the film. Totally rubbish. Disaster from Yashraj. And what Dibakar ? Who Dibakar ?

Pls Dibakar... just go and sleep. Don't make rubbish, u have wasted our 2 hours and Yashraj's money.

It's was not at all creatively. It was only bakwas.

Don't go for false hatred! The name Dibakar banerjee is enough
jeetdutta-1658623 March 2021
Parineeti Chopra just gave the best performance of her career. Talking about Arjun Kapoor, he gave a decent performance. It's a Dibakar banerjee movie which you shouldn't miss. Best Bollywood movie of this year.

Judge for yourself.
chaitanyasachdeva19 March 2021
I rarely review films but after reading all the hate boxes for reviews around here, I just had to write this. It is actually a nice film and a total justice for my money. Films are all about love and inclusiveness of all, and should not be judged by the background of the people working in it. Do watch the film if you can and maybe even write a review of the same about how you like or dislike it.

Slow Mo
jimmybrc21 May 2021
The pace of the movie is too slow & seems the editor slept on the job. Many episodes are far fetched and streched & the end result is disappointing. Pari is ok though she tends to overact but kapoor is a real did! A song by anu Mallik was totally not required & did not help matters- especially making him sing it!! The background score is amateurish. The cinematographer had a golden chance to capture beautiful lights & sights but not upto the job. Avoid.

Not your typical Masala
pjdruck20 March 2021
Sandeep and Pinky faraar is a film that will NOT appeal to a lot of people well it should be clear from the ratings alone (currently a 4 pointer)

But does that mean it's not a good film? Hell No!

The movie is gripping till the end and has complex characters. You don't have to Like the actors in the film to understand that they are pretty decent actors. And they did a good job with the characters that were handed. It's Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, which means you need to understand that it's not gonna be the usual formula-ic film. (If you liked his earlier works like Byomkesh Bakshi etc, you can understand his direction style)

Written by Varun Grover- if you know his writing from his earlier works like Masaan and Sacred Games you know his writing always had a poetic vibe to it.

So If the writer and director are not of your preference, you really won't like this film. And that's totally fine. As for me. It was really a great experience.

The third act started off slightly wobbly, but picked itself back up. Overall a solid film.

The biggest issue with the film is that people were expecting a thriller and chase film. And the first 20 minutes of the film would be the one to Blame as it creates the setup for a cat and mouse thriller. And well. It isn't a High octane thriller. It's a more of a character drama. And a pretty good one at that.

Simple words me: "Sabke liye nahi hai"

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra give their best performances till date in Dibakar Banerjee gripping film which fails to recognise it's own identity.
SAMTHEBESTEST23 May 2021
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021) : Brief Review -

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra give their best performances till date in Dibakar Banerjee gripping film which fails to recognise it's own identity. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar released with low expectations and that might help you to watch this at least once but please don't fall for the fake hype created by some people. There is a reason to it, yes because the film is definitely better than what you thought about it earlier but the essential content doesn't hold upto the good standards. It might be because it promises too much in the first half and then fails to deliver the ordered material or it could be because you want to it be better. SAPF is a story of a man and woman who represent two completely different Indias, the point which kicks off very high but later disappears suddenly without any solid conclusion. They are united after knowing that there is a threat to their lives and they need to support each other if they want to escape and continue living on their lives somewhere else. See, it is very good story to carry but it needed some more clarity in the conclusive part. Like I said, the film fails to recognise its own identity and therefore fails to understand its own potential. Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra are in the best forms of their career in this film. I haven't seen them giving so damn freaking classy performances before. The credit goes to Banerjee who pulled best out of them. His direction is brilliant too but his vision to take this story up is motiveless. Overall, it's a good film only for three things, first is performances of Arjun, Parineeti and supporting cast, second is Banerjee's fine direction and third is entertainment. Watch out for that Dance sequence of Arjun on Faraar song. Rest, it has flaws and errors in the writing which doesn't let it reach higher height it deserved.

RATING - 6/10*

Not the Bollywood's regular offerings !!
madhukar3023 May 2021
A swashbuckling opening scene sets the pace for Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, from the start to about an hour into the movie, director Dibakar Banerjee impress us to the core. The film has very different storyline that we don't normally get to see in Bollywood's offerings, and is more on the lines of Jason Broune than the old James Bond stuff. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar caters to a niche audience who can understand the deeply layered subtexts of the plot. Dibakar Banerjee surely knows how to bring the best out of actors like Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra who have delivered their career best performance.

Cinematography is brilliantly handled, especially the indoor shots. Screenplay is a gem, though it is a bit sophisticated, they way it is crafted & presented by Dibakar Banerjee it is easier to comprehend. With a runtime of 124 minutes, the editor must have been a busy man to keep things in order. Production design, costumes and makeup are par. Music is a mixed bag, has some hits and misses. On the acting front Arjun's rough appearance with deadpan expression and Parineeti's head strong corporate honcho style are pleasing to watch, they are ably supported by Raghuvir Yadhav, Neena Gupta and an over enthusiastic Jaideep Ahlawat.

Overall, like Dibakar Banerjee's earlier works, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar stays away from the regular gimmicks or unnecessary floss. Some might find an issue with the pacing but this slow burner turns out to be a nice satisfying watch. If you're looking for love, action and drama then this may not be for you. But if you're looking for something different to keep you guessing and make you root for both the characters, then this is right down your alley. 6.9 stars out of 10 for a tale well made and told.

Started off pretty well. Then fell flat.
Unfilmy22 May 2021
Banking scam with absolutely no backstory on characters. Why was Pinky on suspension? What was the deal with Parichay and that bald guy? Who was he? Who was Tyagi? You cannot just start a story and not tell us who the hell are these people and how are they connected to the scam.

There's a song which wasn't needed at all in the movie. Arjun Kapoor was watchable as a Haryana cop. Parineeti, however, has proven yet again that she cannot act. Her crying scenes looked very fake. She was easy on the eyes, though.

After about 40 minutes, the pace of the movie became too slow to watch. I managed to complete it by fast forwarding every 5 minutes.

A Great Director can make anyone act
jetkot27 May 2021
If the director is good and has a vision then he can make even a bad actor look good. Arjun Kapoor is the last person on earth who could impress me with his acting performance. He is a Bhai-Fan and even in the acting department he suits his role model. I was pleasantly surprised by Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar. Both Parineeti and Arjun have acted well. Dinker sharma is brilliant and impressive.

A film to understand
suprabhattacharya20 May 2021
Dibakar Banerjee's latest film in the cloak of a chase thriller tries to cover many social issues in a way that doesn't seem preachy and over the top.

Varun Grover's script follows Sandeep(Parineeti Chopra) an accomplice of a huge bank scam who comes by a shocking revelation after encountering with Pinky(A suspended police officer) and a series of a cat and mouse game follows. Dibakar Banerjee's innovative syle of filmmaking makes this film a departure from traditional films of this genre, the main reason is the contrast of the two lead characters in several ways. Parineeti Chopra is a revelation in this film and Arjun Kapoor also does a decent job. The first half of the film is memorable but the second half of the film falters due to absence of proper characterization of the side characters and the indulgence in issues which affects the flow of the film. Dibakar Banerjee's experiment with genre has been quite revelant from his debut and this film also not an exception and to some extent it works here too but even though having Varun Grover(Sacred games)as a writer the film fails to establish a impact which his previous films have generated.

And last but not the least, the opening sequence of the film is interestingly made and executed.

anuj-4279323 March 2021
This is basically one of the best work of Parineeti and I am glad that I can now call arjun Kapoor an actor , not the best movie of Dibakar Banerjee but it is good . And if we can appreciate the direction you will see very subtle way of telling how our society works . A good movie and a good plot
