The message was clear and concise
GH_Formula23 October 2017
This has been a great episode, as needed in times like these. The message it brought across was vivid and clear to all and that no one stands alone, SVU really did a good one with Benson and the mini-session in the hall with the teenagers. You cannot watch the final 5 minutes of this episode without being in agreement or admitting to being in a similar situation or knowing someone in a similar situation or even questioning what's going on right now and asking why aren't people speaking up. This shows that everyone is going through the same thing whether some want to admit it or not. To me, personally the concluding 5 minutes sealed the deal. Well done! This episode is right up there guys. Whether some don't agree with the story-line or whether the scenario wouldn't be how persons would act in reality. What stood firm throughout the entire episode was a message, if you missed it then your focus was clearly misguided. Great Job @NBC

Surprisingly Good

Warning: Spoilers
It was good to see SVU tackle this subject. Teen bullying affects all of us, and schools are more than worthless in dealing with it since school staff are usually bullies themselves, and assist in the bullying.

It was also a weird and nice surprise to see the rapist actually be held accountable. SVU has a long and sordid history of allowing rapists and murderers to go free, finding them not guilty, having them laugh at and taunt their victims at the end. SVU writers love that crap. So imagine my surprise when this episode actually had the bad guy admit he was guilty. Too bad it couldn't have been through a jury trial, but juries are notoriously stupid and corrupt so SVU probably had no choice. Jury trial usually means bad guy walks...especially on SVU.

But the best part was the touching ending, confronting the school and having others admit to being bullied, raped, or abused. This goes on every day in our high schools and middle schools, yet almost every teacher and administrator will turn a blind eye. My son has been told multiple times by several teachers and administrators that if he ever fights back against an attacker, he will be held just as accountable. They come right out and say they have a zero tolerance for defending yourself. Schools are a breeding ground for tomorrows violent criminals, and they are extremely proud of that.

No Good Reason

This was an interesting and as much original a premise as the show can give us 18 years in. We had a young girl who loves social media have a disturbing crime done to her and she lost all her passion and energy. Believable and real, and they told a good story all hour long, amidst the usual formula traps SVU falls into.

The blind bullying and victim awareness speech at the end was kind of lame though, even if the writers had the best of intentions.

Me Too.

Reduced me to tears.

As a member of the LGBTIQ Community in Australia, I have both seen and undergone more then my share of bullying, both as an adult and a child, and its not fun.

I was abused as a child by my Mother who was unable to deal with me being me, leading to me living on the street for 10 years after I ran away from home or got kicked out - depending on your point of view.

So I saw a lot in that time, and grew up fast on the streets of Sydney.

This ep reminded me of a lot of ghosts, its also one of the reasons why I have such a love hate relationship with shows like this.

The acting in this was simply phenomenal,in particular the young girl who had the lead role of the Victim of this crime. But also special mention needs to go to those portraying the families of the accused and the victim who were also not the more usual cardboard cutouts of earlier story lines.

Everyone did the story proud.

The last bit in the school hall was where I really lost it.

Emotionally I mean.

Bullying is not acceptable, its not a part of growing up, and should never ever be looked on as a joke or an acceptable part of life.

The writers of this ep also did a brilliant job as well in crafting a story with a point, and a definite sting in its tail.

THANK YOU to all concerned.

Teenagers Cruelty/Teenagers Helplessness

Olivia's exercise at the end of the episode sums it all up.

The story aims to raise awareness about bullying and community pressure. The incident in the story is just one example of the insensitivity among young people.

It is an article in which Svu takes responsibility in raising awareness and educating the community.

The script is correct. The purpose of education and message has not been brought to our attention.

Plenty of reasons to watch the episode
TheLittleSongbird14 December 2022
"No Good Reason" may not have struck me as a great episode on first watch and there are things that it could have done better. But it also had a lot of good things that made it one of the better first time watches of 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit's' Season 19. Which on the whole didn't really impress me massively, even the best episodes were only very good and not the brilliance that the show at its best was capable of, and had a few major problems that were sadly recurring.

On rewatch, "No Good Reason" still didn't strike me as a great episode story-wise. It also though still had a lot of good things and there are plenty of reasons to watch what is for me easily the second best episode of the four up to this point of the season ("Gone Fishin" being the best). Subject matter wise, it is one of the bravest and most disturbing of Season 19, and credit is due to the episode for even attempting to tackle it and even more importantly doing really well with it.

Am going to begin with the things that could have been done better. This is an episode that ends stronger than it begins, which is the opposite of quite a lot of the latter seasons episodes where there is so much promise to begin with but the endings underwhelm. Here in "No Good Reason" the beginning goes on for too long where Mandy comes over as self-absorbed. The pacing is very uneven in the episode, sometimes perfect but there were too many times where it felt dragged out with the investigation seeming thin and the truth is on the predictable side

Similarly, everything where the perpetrator is caught and how the conviction is gotten felt rushed and unrealistic, as well as being done on quite preachy means. Olivia's attitude has really been alienating me for some time and it still does. Her subplot continues to be a soapy distraction and could easily have been left out.

Lots is extremely well done however. Expectedly, the production values are slick, the editing especially having come on quite a bit from when the show first started (never was it a problem but it got more fluid overtime). The music is sparingly used and never seemed melodramatic, the theme tune easy to remember as usual. It is especially good at the end, which is one of the most beautifully scored individual scenes of the latter seasons in my opinion. The direction is sympathetic enough without being too low key.

Furthermore, there is plenty of thought provoking dialogue that isn't awkward or cheesy. The story is miles away from perfect, but credit is due for so bravely addressing such a difficult and timely topic, one that resonated with me as a bullying victim myself, and not sugar coating. The ending is truly touching, was left in tears and also inspired. Some find it preachy, not to me. The acting is uniformly great, especially in the second half. Mariska Hargitay does give one of her better performances here of this season.

All in all, not great but appreciated it a good deal and there is quite a lot to recommend. 6/10.

This show is devolving into unrealistic scenarios

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert! The Prime suspect CONFESSES! Even with his mom and lawyer present! What Lawyer just lets his client CONFESS TO A CRIME?! In real life, that never happens unless there's a deal. The dumb boy had no deal, but he got a moral conscience and decided to confess?! Dumb. I can't watch stupid details like that. It ruined the episode. Then again, in every Episode, the suspect confessed. They could get away with it if they shut up! But nope! Fake show with dumb characters. I used to love this show. They need to hurry up and cancel the show. It's far past it's due date. I can't get past unrealistic details like a prime suspect confessing for morality sake. If he had morality, he wouldn't have raped the girl. Dumb. My brain just got dumber. What happened to this show?

What happened to SVU
vintagelove-4719929 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Usually it's either a decent to good show sometimes a great or even amazing show but this episode was laughably bad, especially the ending. It was so incredibly cringeworthy to the point where I had a hard time not just turning it off.

I have no issue with trying to make a point and i am pretty robust when it comes to preachy lessons but this was the level of full house bad.

_Spoiler_

For instance when it starts out the girl has gone missing so it could of had an interesting kidnapping plot or maybe a suicide plot revenge plot etc etc and then it turns out some random follower of her blog has her but yeah she just ran away but it seems she was raped (big surprise) and then the guy who she is supposedly great friends with raped her but didn't realize she didn't want it and then i guess changed his mind but he wasn't really sure that she didn't want it. The acting is like he has two personalities. One where he is oblivous to what he was doing was wrong and the other that says whatever I don't care, However with the 2nd personality he wasn't sinister or seemed to back up that role at all. Maybe it's poor writing or poor acting or even both but that really bothered me.

Aside from that it is a completely forgettable episode until the end which is laugh out loud cringeworthy. I may be a bit jaded but it seems im not the only one who thought wow is this really necessary following a sub par episode. It's almost as if they ran out of stuff to write about and filled the last 6 minutes.

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT! Don't read if you don't want it spoiled for you.

This episode was so frustrating to watch. There was this girl who got high with a bunch of guys, had sex and then said she was raped. The young man that she had sex with confessed to raping her and he got charged. Now, when both parties are intoxicated, both cannot legally consent. By the writers logic; if she can come out and claim she was raped, than so can he, but the show doesn't talk about this they make it out that it's all his fault.

The SJW and feminist narrative is becoming ridiculous. The stories are full of unrealistic reactions and behaviour. I understand it's a fictional show but the writing is getting worse.
