Constable JP is instantly convinced his former class bully Cordell Thomas is guilty even before he confesses the skull-smashing murder of bar owner and petty crook Eugene Jones, found by elderly neighbor Samuel Palmer , but Jack can't believe it, as the victim was clutching a peanut without known source. In the house are found valuables stolen from career thief Charlie Blake and his trophy wife Darlene Curtis. While Dwayne gets time off for his birthday, Jack also looks into Eugene's sister Celeste Jones, who runs the bar their father left him. JP realizes Cordell changed for the better after falling in love, possibly covering for her, but that's not the whole story either.
