After receiving his final severance check worth just under $30,000, Kevin receives his next series of signs on what to do from the automated teller machine at his bank. Much to his initial dismay, he believes that what he is supposed to do is to give away all that money in service to others, a thought which is corroborated by Yvette solely in wanting Kevin to become a less selfish person, especially in relation to money. But in coming to the later conclusion that he is supposed to help one specific family - divorced mother Emily Owens, who is deep in debt trying to pay for her teenaged son Max Owens' on-going medical services - Kevin may come to another realization that he misread one of the earlier signs. Kevin finds that helping Emily and Max is not as easy as he handing over money or medicine. As such, he enlists Reese's help, she who is a classmate of Max's, the two who regardless don't know each other beyond seeing each other at school from afar. Reese's assistance is part of her way of finding more about Kevin, she who believes that he has definitely been "touched" in some way by the meteor. Her efforts to find out more about Kevin has unintended consequences as it relates to her relationship with her mother, who is beginning to feel like the odd person out in the household. And Yvette tries to come to terms with what now seems to be her having human emotions, which affects the way she deals with Kevin.
