Slightly obvious but quite fun and thrilling to watch

A rather unusual yet effective short film, "Tube Way" is a mysterious tale about a man trapped in a strange and dark place where he meets a sinister man who wants to play a game with him: if he makes the right choice he can leave the place, if not he'll stay there in this hellish scenario forever. The crying man isn't interested but the other man - named Kaal - is imposing, loud and convincing, so the young man will have to face his fears and try to save his own life. Apparently, he's dead and went to hell, and this sort of diabolical creature is giving him the chance to get him back to life. Surprises, surprises...

Director Badrinath Sabat conduces with great effort this intense short film, creating great suspense and a dark sense of humor, and despite I only seeing the film just once the images created weren't erased from my memory so easily. There's a nice plot twist to it all but the problem is that it's quite obvious from the get-go - I liked it though, but just found that you could foresee the events from miles away. It feels like something you've seen before time and again but part of the treatment given to it feels like something slightly different from the clichés of countless Hollywood flicks (cinematography changes, the awesome use of an incredible dark photograph when the duo is in this limbo and the mixture of dialogues in Hindi and English). My salute to Vikas Shrivastava, who's a very good actor, with great presence, memorable face and voice who dominates the whole experience with quality acting. It's simple, quite safe and easily one of the favorite short films I've seen this year. 8/10
