- The Pope has died and has now been replaced by Sixtus IV. The new pontiff names the Pazzi cousin, Salviati, as Archbishop of Pisa.
- Finding the papacy unwilling to help out the ailing Medici bank, Lorenzo turns again to cruel duke Galleano Sforza, who accepts to pay off Milan's huge debt by trade treaty at rival city Bologna's expense. Lorenzo is patient with his unsophisticated but well-meaning bride Clarice and arranges for protege painter Sandro Botticelli to get his ideal model Beatrice to sit for a portrait at the Medici's expense. The new pope Sixtus IV appoints a Pazzi kinsman archbishop of Pisa, with jurisdiction over Firenze, so the Medici plot to lock him out. Lorenzo's sister elopes with the brother of Jacopo's deputy cousin Francesco, needing to by 'bought off' by Lorenzo, who still gets his treaty trough the 'priori' as Francesco deserts Jacopo.—KGF Vissers
- The papacy finds itself once again unstable when the Pope dies shortly after granting the Medici Bank extension they strive so hard to gain and thus Cardinal Della Rovera is elected to be the new Pope as Sixtus iv, though the new Pope was an ally to Lorenzo and had played a role in arranging his marriage to Clarice but finding his nature to be corrupt Lorenzo aims to bring a true promising fortune to the bank and Florence by visiting Milan with Giuliano to meet the cruel Duke in order to recall the debt the Milanese duchy holds. Unfortunately, when Duke Sforza seemed firm on not repaying the debt as he claimed that he has not enough money, Lorenzo offers a new treaty, focusing on augmenting trade in Florence by persuading the Duke to divert his trade from Bologna to Florence, thus generating new revenue through Medici Bank and also the extension to repayment of the loan was granted in return. After approaching Florence, Lorenzo addresses the Priori and puts the new proposal of the said treaty forward but the Pazzi and other rivals seem adamant in staying against the proposal and the votes in favor seem reduced as Francesco Pazzi is made a new member of the Prior to replace an ailing Lord Prior. Therefore, to gather proper support for votes Lorenzo asks Sandro to take a commission for Marco Vespucci, as the merchant is a great admirer of art, to which Sandro reveals his intentions to paint Simonetta Vespucci has he claims of never have seen such a beauty in his life, however, on the other side Bishop Salviati infuriates the Pope against the Milanese treaty but his efforts went in vain. Meanwhile Clarice arrives in Florence and is eventually awed by Brunelleschi's Duomo and the city's culture but however she also gets worried as her Roman ways were quite different than those of Florentine. Soon after Lorenzo receives news of the archbishop of Pisa dying and to ensure proper support from Pisa, offers the Pope his own candidate for the elections. On the other side Bianca still firm on not to marry Bastiano Soderini reveals Lorenzo of Guglielmo Pazzi upon which Lorenzo immediately rejects the idea. During the feast of celebrating Lorenzo's wedding where Clarice realizes her to be insecure among the other Florentine women as well as she is consolidated by Lucrezia Donati herself, Bianca runs off with Guglielmo to a near countryside. During the feast ceremony Giuliano flirts with Simonetta Vespucci while Sandro asks for Marco's permission to paint her to which he eventually consents, followed by Lorenzo and Clarice finally consummating their marriage in a sophisticated manner but however the two felt a great difference between them but somehow stay patient. The next morning Lorenzo upon learning of Bianca's elopement orders her to be brought back by guards, while on the other side Jacopo Pazzi having known of situation tries to blackmail Lorenzo to invalidate the Milanese treaty, however Francesco seems reluctant over the fact that his own brother's reputation shall also be in danger, if Jacopo would flaunt the truth to public. However, in the Curia Pope Sixtus appoints Salviati as the new archbishop of Pisa and upon learning Lorenzo orders the gates of Pisa to be shut for the new archbishop. When confronted directly by Jacopo Pazzi, Lorenzo asks for his blessings for Bianca and Guglielmo's union rather than asking for his vote in favor of the treaty, in return of ordering the gates to be open, much to Jacopo's surprise. Bianca on the other hand is brought home and is soon informed by Lorenzo that she is to be married with Guglielmo, as well as, Jacopo after agreeing to Lorenzo, allows Guglielmo to marry Bianca but also disowns him claiming that he shall not be a Pazzi after marrying a Medici, Much to Francesco's dismay as his affections for his younger brother were much ardent since the beginning. Simonetta Vespucci somehow visits Sandro's workshop and has a small but rather romantic interaction with Giuliano who keeps on flirting with her. In the Priori when the voting is called upon the Pazzis seem to be winning until Francesco votes in favor of the treaty and goes against Jacopo claiming that if Guglielmo isn't a Pazzi then neither is he. Thus Lorenzo gains greater number of votes and wins the treaty.
